Another fight has been added to the UFC 149 dance card, as promotion officials announced Tuesday morning that Claude Patrick will square off with James Head in a welterweight duel at the July 21 event.
Patrick, 31, suffered just the second loss of his professional career in his most recent outing, falling by split decision to veteran Brian Ebersole at UFC 140 in December. Prior to that loss -- which snapped a 13-fight winning streak for the Canadian -- “The Prince” had been perfect during his stint with the UFC, posting victories over Ricardo Funch, James Wilks and Daniel Roberts.
Head rebounded from defeat in his inaugural Octagon appearance to dominate Papy Abedi at UFC on Fuel TV 2. After submitting to a Nick Ring rear-naked choke last June, the Oklahoman rebounded last month by dispatching Abedi in just 4:33, using a rear-naked choke of his own to finish the Congolese-born Swede. Head has allowed only one of his eight career victories to go to the judges’ scorecards and has never been knocked out in more than five years as a pro.
