UFC 160 Update: Mike Pyle-Gunnar Nelson Welterweight Clash Added to May 25 Card

Highly touted 170-pound prospect Gunnar Nelson will face a stern test in the Octagon on Memorial Day weekend, as the Iceland native will lock horns with 33-fight veteran Mike Pyle at UFC 160.

The matchup was first reported by MMAJunkie.com last week, and UFC officials confirmed the pairing on Monday. UFC 160 takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 25 and is highlighted by a heavyweight title showdown between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva.

The 24-year-old Nelson has yet to taste defeat in his professional career, with the lone blemish on his record coming in the form of a draw against John Olesen in his MMA debut in 2007. In his initial Octagon appearance, “Gunni” submitted DaMarques Johnson with a rear-naked choke at UFC on Fuel TV 5. Nelson returned to action on Feb. 16, capturing a unanimous verdict over former Sengoku champion Jorge Santiago at UFC on Fuel TV 7.

The resurgent Pyle has won six of his last seven bouts while competing for the Las Vegas-based promotion, including first-round knockouts of Ricardo Funch, Josh Neer and James Head in his last three bouts. The Xtreme Couture representative began his MMA career in 1999 and also owns notable triumphs over Jon Fitch, John Hathaway and Ricardo Almeida.
