UFC 165 Weigh-In Results: No Issues for Jon Jones, Alexander Gustafsson in Toronto

Jon Jones finds himself on the verge of history as he approaches his latest appointment inside the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s famed Octagon.

Jones tipped the scales at 204.5 pounds, as he takes aim at a record sixth successful title defense against Alexander Gustafsson (204.5) in the UFC 165 main event on Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao (135) and challenger Eddie Wineland (135.25) also met the contracted weight requirements for their co-headliner without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.

Anchored at Jackson’s Mixed Martial Arts, Jones last appeared at UFC 159 in April, when he dismantled an overmatched Chael Sonnen with elbows and punches at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The 26-year-old has finished eight opponents during his current nine-fight tear, including former UFC champions Mauricio Rua, Lyoto Machida, Quinton Jackson and Vitor Belfort. He owns a stellar 12-1 mark since entering the UFC in 2008, a disqualification loss to Matt Hamill at “The Ultimate Fighter 10” Finale the lone blemish. Jones has successfully defended the 205-pound crown on five occasions, tying him with UFC hall of famer Tito Ortiz for the all-time record.

Gustafsson assumed the mantle of No. 1 contender on the strength of a six-fight winning streak. The 26-year-old Swede last competed at UFC on Fox 5 in December, when he cruised to a unanimous decision over Rua at Key Arena in Seattle. The Alliance MMA representative has compiled a 7-1 mark inside the UFC, losing only to four-time NCAA All-American wrestler Phil Davis. Gustafsson has secured 12 of his 15 career victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission.

UFC 165 “Jones vs. Gustafsson” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- also features a heavyweight scrap pairing Brendan Schaub (237) with “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 10 castmate Matt Mitrione (260.5), a middleweight clash pitting the world-ranked Costas Philippou (186) against Tristar Gym’s Francis Carmont (186) and a lightweight tilt matching undefeated American Kickboxing Academy export Khabib Nurmagomedov (156) with Pat Healy (155.75).

Two hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will carry four preliminary bouts: Myles Jury (156) vs. Mike Ricci (155.5), Ivan Menjivar (*136) vs. Wilson Reis (135), Chris Clements (169.5) vs. Stephen Thompson (170.5) and Mitch Gagnon (136) vs. Dustin Kimura (136). The four remaining undercard matchups will stream to YouTube and the UFC’s Facebook page at 6:15 p.m. ET/3:15 p.m. PT, as John Makdessi (155) locks horns with Renee Forte (155.5), Jesse Ronson (155.5) squares off with Michel Richard dos Prazeres (155), Roland Delorme (136) faces Alex Caceres (136) and Nandor Guelmino (230) meets Daniel Omielanczuk (245.5).
