UFC 170 Medical Suspensions: MacDonald, Assuncao, Thompson Facing 6 Months

Rory MacDonald is one of five fighters facing a potential six-month suspension following UFC 170.

MacDonald, who earned a unanimous verdict over Demian Maia in a featured welterweight bout, must have his right ankle cleared by a doctor or he will be unable to compete for 180 days. Also facing six months on the shelf is bantamweight contender Raphael Assuncao, who must have his ribs cleared by a doctor before returning to action following his unanimous decision triumph over Pedro Munhoz.

Also facing potential six-month suspensions pending doctor clearance are Stephen Thompson (right hand), Robert Whittaker (left forearm) and Cody Gibson (right hand).

UFC 170 took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas this past Saturday and saw Ronda Rousey defend her bantamweight title with a first-round stoppage of Sara McMann in the evening’s main event.

UFC 170 Medical Suspensions:

Sara McMann: suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days
Patrick Cummins: suspended 45 days with no contact for 21 days
Rory MacDonald: suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days; additionally, must have right ankle cleared by doctor or no contest for 180 days
Demian Maia: suspend 45 days with no contact for 30 days
T.J. Waldburger: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days
Stephen Thompson: must have right hand cleared by doctor or no contest for 180 days
Robert Whittaker: suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days; additionally must have left forearm cleared by doctor or no contest for 180 days
Raphael Assuncao: suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days; additionally, must have left ribs cleared by doctor or no contest for 180 days
Pedro Munhoz: suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days
Aljamain Sterling: must have MRI of head within seven days
Cody Gibson: must have right hand cleared by doctor or no contest for 180 days.
Rafaello Oliveira: suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days due to contusion under right eye
