Cain Carrizosa vs. Chris Wade

Round 1

Carrizosa presses forward on Wade with wide hooks and clinches on the cage, but it’s Wade tossing the Californian to the ground. Wade tries to secure back-control in a scramble but can’t get his hooks in before Carrizosa begins to stand. Wade gives up on the back take and switches to a guillotine, pulls guard and then rolls to squeeze the choke on the topside. Carrizosa goes unconscious, prompting referee Jason Herzog to halt the bout.

The Official Result

Chris Wade def. Cain Carrizosa via Technical Submission (Guillotine Choke) R1 1:12

Anthony Hamilton vs. Ruan Potts

Round 1

Hamilton ducks under a looping punch from Potts and slams the South African to the ground in the center of the cage. Potts is quick to scramble up, but Hamilton only takes a few seconds before moving in to clinch against the cage. Hamilton takes a clipping left hand on his way inside this time, though he gets the takedown anyway. Hamilton stands, leaving Potts on the ground, and now referee Steven Davis orders “Fangzz” to get up. Hamilton catches Potts leaning over with a switch kick, then gets another takedown shortly after. It’s half guard for Hamilton, who sits up and elbows at Potts’ ribs but gets a warning from ref Davis for a 12-to-6 strike. With 70 seconds left, Hamilton backs off to allow Potts to stand. Ten seconds later, another takedown goes for Hamilton and the sequence repeats.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Hamilton
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Hamilton

Round 2

Hamilton gets another easy takedown and allows Potts to stand. Once on his feet, Potts gets verbal with his strikes, letting out yelps as he kicks at Hamilton’s body. Ninety seconds in, Hamilton brings Potts down again and begins hammering his body with punches. Potts lands a couple punches from underneath, but Hamilton is just pummeling Potts’ ribs. The body blows prompt referee Davis calls for Potts to defend himself, and when Potts does not, Davis stops the fight.

The Official Result

Anthony Hamilton def. Ruan Potts via TKO (Punches to the Body) R2 4:17

Derek Brunson vs. Lorenz Larkin

Round 1

Brunson takes the center of the cage in the southpaw stance and pushes Larkin to the outside with a front kick. Larkin catches Brunson changing levels and clips him with a right hook before driving a knee into the wrestler’s breadbasket. The middleweights disengage and now Larkin moves to the center, catching Brunson on the shoulder with a high kick and stuffing another takedown attempt. Brunson is reaching with long punches, chasing Larkin across the cage for a chance to clinch again. Using an underhook, Brunson pins Larkin to the fence and works for an inside trip. Larkin stays standing and denies a single-leg attempt, so Brunson rocks him with a left hook and grabs a guillotine under his left arm. Larkin slides to the ground to relieve the pressure, but now Brunson is in deep half guard with two minutes left in the round. Larkin pushes him back to full guard, throws an elbow from underneath and works to negate the space with rubber guard. Brunson bashes Larkin with a couple of punches and forearm strikes in the closing seconds.

Sherdog Scores

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Brunson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Brunson

Round 2

Larkin swings wide punches at Brunson, who deflects a couple shots with his arms before changing levels for a takedown attempt. It’s stuffed by Larkin, who puts a loud kick on the left side of Brunson’s body. Larkin stands up Brunson again on the next single-leg try, but this time Brunson stays after it and hustles the “Monsoon” to the ground a few feet away from the fence. With three minutes on the clock, Brunson sits up in Larkin’s half guard and frames up a brabo choke, then gives it up as Larkin puts him in full guard. The 185ers move toward the fence, where Larkin sits and then stands, not allowing Brunson to take his back on the way. Larkin manages to land a single a right hook upstairs before being dragged back to the mat. Brunson finishes the round on top, in half guard near the fence.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Brunson
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Brunson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Brunson

Round 3

Brunson gets yet another takedown in the opening minute of the final frame, landing in half guard on Larkin’s right side. Larkin tries to roll and escape underneath, but Brunson is heavy on top, maintaining position before passing to half guard on the other side about midway through the round. Larkin grabs for a heel hook, easily shaken off by Brunson, who shoves Larkin over toward the fence and spends most of the final two minutes of the round landing sporadic ground and pound. Larkin climbs back to his feet with 20 seconds to go and drives Brunson backward with a standing elbow strike. Larkin tries to come alive with knees and a wild cartwheel kick at the horn, but he can’t find Brunson with his strikes.

Damon Jackson vs. Yancy Medeiros

Round 1

Jackson walks straight forward on Medeiros and takes a front kick to the body, but he clips Medeiros with a right hand in the exchange. A few seconds later, Jackson pushes forward again and has his head rocked by a hard right hook. Jackson puts his head down and throws overhand punches to get into range and grab hold of Medeiros on the fence. Using a waistlock, Jackson tries to drag Medeiros to the ground, but the Hawaiian keeps his balance with his back to the cage. The lightweights trade knees to the body before Medeiros reverses the position to take the outside. Medeiros keeps the knees coming as they clinch while blocking the return fire from Jackson. One knee strays to Jackson’s groin, and now referee Jason Herzog pauses the action. Jackson takes a few seconds to recover and they resume with about two minutes left in the opening round. Medeiros gets through with an uppercut and touches Jackson’s body with a spinning kick before “The Leech” grabs hold of him again. Jackson nearly converts a takedown but again Medeiros is able to stay up. Medeiros threatens with a guillotine as the lightweights tumble to the ground, then hits Jackson with a nice left hook to the ribs as they pop back up.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Jackson
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Medeiros
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Medeiros

Round 2

Medeiros has Jackson on his back foot early in round two, though Jackson comes back with a slapping high kick. The Hawaiian returns fire with a cracking left hand to Jackson’s body, then a few quick jabs before stuffing a takedown try. A cut is opened under Jackson’s right eye as Medeiros marches forward on him. After taking another left hand to the gut, Jackson changes levels for a shot. Medeiros keeps his back to the fence, then snares Jackson’s head under his left arm and spins him to the ground with a nasty modified guillotine-slash-bulldog choke applied. Jackson has nowhere to go as Medeiros puts his full weight on the choke; he taps out, then goes unconscious anyway.

The Official Result

Yancy Medeiros def. Damon Jackson via Submission (Reverse Bulldog Choke) R2 1:54

Carlos Diego Ferreira vs. Ramsey Nijem

Round 1

Nijem moves straight across the cage to jab at Ferreira with long left hands. Ferreira flurries back with hooks using both hands, pushing Nijem out of the pocket. Nijem catches a kick and trips Ferreira to the ground, then luckily misses with a soccer kick as the Brazilian scrambles up. A hard outside leg kick connects for Nijem, countered over the top by a Ferreira right hand. Both lightweights land left hooks in an exchange, with Nijem appearing to get the better punch. Another kick is caught by Nijem, and now he follows Ferreira to the ground. Ferreira stands up right away and tags Nijem with a right hook on the way. Nijem paws at his nose, then pushes forward to stagger Ferreira with a short right hook. Nijem circles around the southpaw Ferreira, who stands in the center and occasionally presses outward but has trouble navigating Nijem’s range. Another takedown goes for Nijem, immediately swept by Ferreira with butterfly guard. They come back up and Ferreira wobbles Nijem with a right hook behind the ear. Nijem drops to his knees near the fence and clings to a single-leg while absorbing follow-up punches. Ferreira grabs a kimura as they tumble to the ground, switches to an armbar but can’t secure it. Ferreira finishes the round on top after sweeping by threatening with a leglock.

Round 2

Ferreira gives up on the punches and pulls guard with a guillotine, but Nijem has neck room on the inside and pops his head free. Now it’s Nijem in top position, in the center of the cage, with about four minutes left in the round. He allows Ferreira to stand 30 seconds later and backpedals, trying to draw the Brazilian into the pocket. When it doesn’t work, Nijem explodes forward and runs straight into another right hand on the chin. Nijem hits the deck, Ferreira pours on the punches, and this time referee Herb Dean waves it off.

The Official Result

Carlos Diego Ferreira def. Ramsey Nijem via TKO (Punches) R2 1:53

Bethe Correia vs. Shayna Baszler

Round 1

Baszler shoves Correia against the cage and works for a takedown, then pulls guard instead. It’s Correia on top, in Baszler’s half guard, and now the veteran reclaims full guard from the Brazilian. Baszler throws up her legs, not quite in triangle position but still trapping Correia’s left arm. Baszler works to destabilize Correia by ripping out her left leg, and now Correia slips loose and scrambles to her feet, inviting Baszler to follow. A few seconds later, the 135ers are back in a clinch on the fence, then Baszler drops to try a single-leg. Correia defends and reverses to put Baszler’s back to the fence, then scores with a pair of uppercuts to the American’s body. Baszler goes to her knees, where Correia hits her with a couple shots to the head and receives a warning about strikes to the back of the head. Baszler hooks a leg and pulls Correia to the ground, where Baszler attempts a guillotine as time runs out.

TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Baszler
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Baszler

Round 2

Correia tags Baszler with a couple hard body shots and a left hook upstairs before the “Queen of Spades” is able to clinch and bring the fight to the fence. Correia refuses to be corralled this time and unloads on Baszler with short standing elbows, four quick shots to the body, knees and uppercuts. Baszler is in danger, swinging back with wild shots as Correia assaults her. More body work from Correia, and now Baszler is just standing there with her mouth open, absorbing punches. Baszler tries to get off the fence and gets pushed right back. Referee John McCarthy is calling for Baszler to fight back as Correia pours on the left hooks and straight right hands. After five or six more direct shots with no retaliation from Baszler, referee McCarthy steps in to stop the fight.

The Official Result

Bethe Correia def. Shayna Baszler via TKO (Punches) R2 1:56

Danny Castillo vs. Tony Ferguson

Round 1

Castillo looks for an early takedown, gets shoved away by Ferguson, who comes back to land an inside leg kick. The rangy Ferguson presses ahead, lobbing kicks and covering up when the smaller man throws combinations. Castillo grabs for another single-leg, can’t keep hold. The lightweights move to the center of the cage, where Castillo finds success with some hooking combinations. Ferguson pulls up short on his counterpunches but catches Castillo in a standing brabo choke, then falls to the ground to try and finish. Castillo doesn’t look to be in danger of being finished, but he also has no way to escape from the headlock for the better part of 90 seconds. With 60 seconds on the clock, Castillo gets his head free and sits up in side control. Ferguson puts him back in guard, then a brief rubber guard. Castillo buries his face in Ferguson’s chest while “El Cucuy” slaps with palms to the sides of Castillo’s head, then elbows in the final seconds.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ferguson
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Ferguson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ferguson

Round 2

Ferguson is coming straight ahead at Castillo, picking with long left hands and covering up when the Team Alpha Male fighter returns fire with combos. Ferguson thwarts a takedown, briefly throws Castillo to the canvas and allows him back up. Castillo grazes Ferguson with a whipping overhand right, grabs for a double-leg and gets stood up by the “TUF” veteran. Castillo mixes it up with a body-head combo just before both men slip to the ground. They stand up and Castillo gets a rear waistlock, so Ferguson rolls forward to try for a leglock. Castillo denies the sub attempt and moves to Ferguson’s half guard, now midway through the round and the fight. Ferguson pushes off the fence and hits a sweep but gets swept back under just as quickly. Again, Castillo buries his head while Ferguson throws peppering punches, elbows and palm strikes from his back. Ferguson tries to hit a switch in the final 30 seconds but Castillo stays heavy on top, jut maintaining position while offering little offense.

Sherdog Scores

Jordan Breen scores the round 10-9 Ferguson
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Ferguson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Ferguson

Round 3

Castillo scores with two or three punches in a combination as he catches Ferguson coming forward sloppily. Ferguson rolls to the ground, grabbing for Castillo’s legs, but it’s Castillo who latches on to a single-leg and slowly pushes Ferguson to the ground. Ferguson tries a kimura from underneath, steps over Castillo’s head and nearly takes the back. Castillo slips out the back door but his right arm is still in danger as Ferguson cranks it from a seated position at the base of the fence. The lightweights stand up, then go straight back down as Castillo lands a takedown against the cage. Ferguson comes up again, gets slammed back down. Castillo dives into Ferguson’s guard with a heavy right hand, answered by a couple hard elbows to the head from Ferguson. With two minutes left in the bout, Ferguson gets a warning from referee Herb Dean for elbow strikes straying to the back of Castillo’s head. Castillo is doing almost nothing on top, just holding Ferguson down. He comes alive in the last minute with a couple elbow strikes, but Ferguson is outworking him by a wide margin. Castillo steps over to full mount with 50 seconds left, tries an arm-triangle choke but runs out of time.

UFC Bantamweight Championship Fight:
T.J. Dillashaw vs. Joe Soto

Round 1

Referee John McCarthy is the third man in the cage for tonight’s title bout, with judges Mike Bell, Derek Cleary and Wade Vieira scoring at cageside. Dillashaw starts the fight lunging at Soto with some long right hands, then feints a shot and gets the challenger to jump backward. A leg kick knocks Soto to the ground for a split-second, but the former Bellator champ bounces back up. Soto goes for a single-leg, can’t get the takedown, and now Dillashaw spins around to jump on Soto’s back. They roll away from the cage and Soto frees himself from the champion’s body triangle, then scrambles back to his feet. Soto ducks under a high kick, grazes Dillashaw with a counter right hand. Dillashaw lands a swift right hand on the cheek as both men throw heavy punches in the pocket. Soto fakes a level change, gets stood up and eats a hook for his troubles. Soto sticks his tongue out at Dillashaw and steps forward to deliver a right hand on the ear. Dillashaw’s left ear is leaking blood as he stalks Soto around the perimeter with 30 seconds left in the first frame. The bantamweights tie up and Soto drives an uppercut up the middle, while Dillashaw counters with a right hook. Dillashaw is smiling wide but it’s Soto getting the better of the early exchanges in round two. The challenger keeps a high guard and absorbs a couple outside leg kicks to walk forward on Dillashaw. The Team Alpha Male fighter rips back with an uppercut as he catches Soto leaning in. Soto keeps pressing ahead, sticks a jab. Dillashaw lands a right hook and left straight in combination, but Soto just keeps coming. Soto comes around the outside with a right hook, but he’s mostly throwing single shots. A wide left hook rocks Dillashaw’s head as he touches Soto with a left to the body. Two minutes left in the round as Dillashaw walks forward, still volume punching but finding a lot of Soto’s gloves in the process. Soto is going into a defensive shell in the last 30 seconds, covering up to avoid taking much damage from Dillashaw’s busy punches.

Halfway through the round, Dillashaw hits a takedown and tries to take Soto’s back in a scramble, but Soto comes out the back door to stand. Soto moves backward as Dillashaw walks ahead with a mixture of high kicks and snappy jabs. Soto adds to the damage on Dillashaw’s right cheek with a couple heavy jabs inside the final minute. Soto is having trouble getting close, and when he does manage to get near the champ, Dillashaw paws at him with busy jabs and kicks. Soto gets one back with a right hook to the body, chases after Dillashaw but winds up on the wrong end of a double-leg. With 90 seconds left in round four, Dillashaw kneels in Soto’s closed guard. Soto pulls rubber guard but can’t keep Dillashaw contained, and the Team Alpha Male fighter is back up with 30 seconds to go. Soto hits the ground and Dillashaw polishes him off with a couple punches before referee McCarthy intervenes.
