UFC 179 Weigh-in Results: Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes Cleared for Rematch

By Brian Knapp Oct 24, 2014

Chad Mendes has waited nearly three years for a second crack at MMA royalty.

Mendes tipped the scales at 145 pounds for his rematch with Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo (145) in the UFC 179 main event on Saturday at Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro. Light heavyweight co-headliners Glover Teixeira (205) and Phil Davis (205) also met their contracted weight requirements without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.

UFC 179 “Aldo vs. Mendes 2” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will also feature a light heavyweight clash pairing Blackzilians representative Hans Stringer (206) with Fabio Maldonado (205), a featherweight tilt pitting Chute Boxe’s Lucas Martins (146) against Darren Elkins (145) and a lightweight battle matching undefeated former Legacy Fighting Championship titleholder Carlos Diego Ferreira (156) with Beneil Dariush (156).

Two hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will carry four preliminary bouts: Neil Magny (171) vs. William Macario (170), Yan Cabral (156) vs. Naoyuki Kotani (155), Scott Jorgensen (*128) vs. Wilson Reis (125) and Andre Fili (146) vs. Felipe Arantes (146). The two remaining undercard matchups will stream to UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, as the unbeaten Gilbert Burns (155) meets Christos Giagos (156) and American Top Team’s Tony Martin (*157) faces Fabricio Camoes (*158).
