Sergio Pettis will share a card with his lightweight champion brother at UFC 181.
Promotion officials announced on Thursday that Pettis will face Matt Hobar in a bantamweight clash on Dec. 6. UFC 181 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and features a pair of title tilts, as Johny Hendricks defends his welterweight strap against Robbie Lawler, while Anthony Pettis meets Gilbert Melendez in a 155-pound championship bout.
After debuting in the Octagon with a decision victory over Will Campuzano, the 21-year-old Pettis suffered the first defeat of his career at UFC on Fox 10, tapping to a rear-naked choke against Alex Caceres in the third round. The Roufusport export has since rebounded, taking a unanimous verdict against Yaotzin Meza at UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. Khabilov” in June.
Hobar, meanwhile, earned his first promotional triumph on Aug. 23, when he outpointed Aaron Phillips at UFC Fight Night “Henderson vs. dos Anjos.” The Legacy Fighting Championship veteran debuted in the UFC on May 31, losing to Pedro Munhoz via first-round technical knockout.
