UFC 189 Weigh-in Results: Chad Mendes, Conor McGregor Cleared for Makeshift Headliner

Conor McGregor will get his opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong against one of the world’s premier featherweights, just not 145-pound champion Jose Aldo.

McGregor tipped the scales at 145 pounds ahead of his five-round clash with Chad Mendes (144.5) for the interim Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight title in the UFC 189 main event on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (169.5) at Friday’s official weigh-in also met the contracted weight requirements for his title defense against Rory MacDonald (170) in the co-headliner.

UFC 189 “Mendes vs. McGregor” -- which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will also feature featherweight battle pairing Dennis Bermudez (146) with Alliance MMA rep Jeremy Stephens (*149.5), a welterweight tilt pitting Gunnar Nelson (169.5) against Brandon Thatch (170.5) and a bantamweight affair matching American Top Team’s Brad Pickett (136) with the unbeaten Thomas Almeida (136).

Two hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will carry four preliminary bouts: Matt Brown (171) vs. Tim Means (171), Mike Swick (170.5) vs. Alex Garcia (171), Cathal Pendred (171) vs. John Howard (170.5) and Cody Garbrandt (136) vs. Enrique Briones (136). The two remaining undercard matchups will stream to UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, as former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder Neil Seery (125.5) meets Louis Smolka (126) and Yosdenis Cedeno (155) faces Cody Pfister (156).
