UFC 193 Medical Suspensions: Ex-Champ Ronda Rousey Facing Potential 6-Month Layoff

By Tristen Critchfield Nov 17, 2015

Ronda Rousey could be out for as long as six months following her second-round knockout loss to Holly Holm in the UFC 193 main event.

Rousey has been suspended for 180 days pending a negative head CT scan. At a minimum, the Olympic judoka cannot fight for 60 days and isn’t allowed to have contact training for 45 days. Rousey was finished by a head kick and follow-up punches 59 seconds into round two in the UFC 193 headliner, which took place at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Saturday night. “Rowdy” was not present at the post-fight press conference, as she was immediately transported to a hospital following her defeat.

The UFC released a list of medical suspensions from the event to mixedmartialarts.com on Tuesday. Because there is no sanctioning body for MMA in Australia, the Las Vegas-based promotion acted as its own regulator for the event.

Four other fighters are facing potential six-month suspensions following the event, including reigning strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk, who defended her crown with a five-round unanimous verdict over Valerie Letourneau in the co-main event. Jedrzejczyk must have her right hand cleared by an orthopedic doctor and provide an x-ray before she can return to action. The Polish fighter said on Saturday that she thought she broke her hand during the bout.

The others facing lengthy layoffs from UFC 193 were: Letourneau (head), Robert Whittaker (left ankle, right hand) and Jared Rosholt (right tibia/fibula).
