“The Ultimate Fighter” Season 21 winner Kamaru Usman will no longer compete at UFC 198.
Ultimate Fighting Championship officials on Monday announced Usman’s removal from the May 14 event, which takes place at Joaquim Americo Guimaraes Stadium in Curitiba, Brazil. A reason for the change was not specified.
Usman’s opponent, Brazilian welterweight Sergio Moraes, will remain on the bill against countryman and Octagon newcomer Luan Chagas.
Moraes, 33, is a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner in search of his fifth consecutive UFC victory. Since coming up short in the 2012 final of “TUF: Brazil,” Moraes has finished three out of four opponents, with two submissions and one knockout. “The Panther” last competed in December, when he punched out Omari Akhmedov in the third round at UFC Fight Night “Namajunas vs. VanZant.”
Chagas, 22, joins the UFC on a nine-fight winning streak. The Curitiba native has gone unbeaten since suffering the lone defeat of his 15-fight career in April 2013. Chagas most recently scored a first-round submission against fellow prospect Eduardo Garvon at December’s Imortal FC 2.
