UFC 203 Weigh-in Results: Stipe Miocic, Alistair Overeem Greenlit for Title Tilt

By Dave Mandel Sep 9, 2016

Quicken Loans Arena, home of the world champion Cleveland Cavaliers NBA team, will serve as the host location to the first world champ the “Plum City” has seen since the 1950s as he makes his title defense. Stipe Miocic, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s heavyweight champion, is set to make the first defense of his crown against Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 203 (live odds) Saturday night.

Miocic won the title in dramatic fashion when he flattened Fabricio Werdum in the first round at UFC 198, doesn’t expect to be handing his belt over to the Dutch striker when they lock horns. He brought his hometown a title and to lose it in front of his loving fans would be crushing, therefore he’s vowed to retain his title and expects to knock Overeem out when they meet.

Overeem, a former K-1 World Grand Prix champion, poses a major threat to the American because of his brilliant striking. Among the greatest pure strikers the sport of MMA has ever seen at heavyweight, the Dutch legend feels it’s his destiny to finally win the UFC title, something that has eluded him for years.

At Friday’s weigh-ins, both men looked better than ever on the scale. Overeem was the first to weigh in and “The Demolition Man” did not disappoint; he came in at 248.5 pounds. Miocic, meanwhile, was right on the money and looked every it as fit as his challenger. Miocic checked in at 246 pounds.

The bout that has been receiving the most press, though, is former WWE superstar Phil Brooks making his MMA debut against Mickey Gall. At the scales, the rivals squared off and came in on point; Punk weighed 170 while Gall came in at 170.5.

UFC 203 will begin with exclusive preliminary bouts on UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. From there, the action will switch over to Fox Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, followed by the pay-per-view telecast, which goes live at 1o p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
