There were no surprises among the UFC 205 bonus winners, as Conor McGregor, Tyron Woodley, Stephen Thompson and Yoel Romero each received $50,000 paychecks.
McGregor garnered a “Performance of the Night” award for his second-round knockout of Eddie Alvarez in the evening’s main event. A left hand behind the ear and a follow-up right hook sent Alvarez to the floor, and the fight was halted shortly after the Philadelphia native hit the canvas 3:04 into the period.
Meanwhile, Woodley and Thompson may have been unhappy with the final result of their welterweight championship clash, but the action that occurred over the course of five rounds earned them “Fight of the Night” honors. Woodley was dominant in rounds one and four, but Thompson managed to rack up enough points in rounds two, three and five to make scoring interesting. Ultimately, Woodley retained his title via majority draw.
Finally, Romero put an emphatic stamp on his title contender status at middleweight with a third-round knockout of ex-champion Chris Weidman. The Cuban wrestler clinched a “Performance of the Night” bonus when he caught Weidman with a flying knee as the Serra-Longo Fight Team member attempted to shoot for a takedown. “The Soldier of God” then finished the contest with a few follow-up blows on his bloodied foe 24 seconds into round three.
