UFC 205 Weigh-in Results: Eddie Alvarez, Conor McGregor Cleared to Brawl

It’s no secret that Saturday’s UFC 205 is massive. With it being the first-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship event to be held in Madison Square Garden, the Las Vegas-based promotion had pulled out all the stops and loaded the marquee with seven current or former champions and when looking at the lineup, the majority of the matchups would headline an event on their own.

But UFC 205 (live odds) is anchored by the lightweight championship between current 155-pound titlist Eddie Alvarez and 145-pound ace Conor McGregor. There has been plenty of hype surrounding the feature bout as the Irishman looks to become the first person in history to simultaneously hold UFC titles in two different weight classes. At Thursday’s weigh-ins, “Notorious” McGregor came in at 154.6 pounds. Not to be outdone, Alvarez came in on point and weighed 154.4 pounds, clearing the final hurdle for what should be a memorable brawl.

The co-main event will see Tyron Woodley put his welterweight crown on the line against Stephen Thompson, a perfect matchup of power and wrestling against electric striking and unorthodox attacks. Thompson weighed 169. Similarly, Woodley clocked in at 169.8, ready to defend his belt.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk will defend her strawweight title against fellow Pole Karolina Kowalkiewicz and both women were on the money at the scale. Challenger Kowalkiewicz scaled in at 114.4 while Jedrzejczyk also came in at 114.4.

Kelvin Gastelum, who has a well-documented history of not making weight, failed once again on the biggest stage. Gastelum was so heavy that he did not even attempt to weigh-in Friday, cancelling his much-anticipated scrap with Donald Cerrone (170.4).

Also of note was Thiago Alves (162.6) missing weight. His opponent, Jim Miller, was reportedly on weight but had to come in within five pounds of his opponent so the New York commission would allow the fight to continue. Miller did just that with a tally of 157.6.
