Charles Oliveira made a triumphant return to 155 pounds, a decision that made him $50,000 richer on Saturday night.
“Do Bronx” received a “Performance of the Night” bonus for a dominant win over former Bellator titlist Will Brooks in a featured lightweight tilt at UFC 210 in Buffalo. Oliveira took Brooks down twice and took his foe’s back when he attempted to return to his feet. From there, the Brazilian secured a standing rear-naked choke and the tapout 2:30 into the opening stanza.
Elsewhere, Shane Burgos and Charles Rosa garnered “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their entertaining preliminary featherweight clash. After a couple back-and-forth frames, Burgos brought the action to a close with a series of well-placed punches at the 1:59 mark of round three.
Finally, former NCAA All-American wrestler Gregor Gillespie pocketed a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his 21-second technical knockout victory over Andrew Holbrook in a preliminary lightweight affair. Gillespie dropped his opponent with a left hook and then sealed the bout with a series of hammerfists shortly after the contest began.
