UFC 214 Medical Suspensions: Donald Cerrone Tagged with Six-Month Suspension

One of the most popular fighters in Ultimate Fighting Championship history won’t be stepping into the Octagon anytime soon. Donald Cerrone was slapped with a six-month medical suspension from the California State Athletic Commission on Tuesday stemming from his wild brawl with Robbie Lawler at UFC 214 last Saturday.

CSAC officials stated that “Cowboy” will need medical clearance due to a possible fracture to his left eye. Cerrone lost on points to Lawler, a former UFC welterweight champion, and was deemed to have pupil constriction when he was examined by cageside physicians.

Daniel Cormier not only lost his UFC light heavyweight crown in the UFC 214 main event, he will also be sidelined for the time being as well. “DC” has been ordered to sit on the sidelines for 60 days due to his brutal third-round knockout loss to arch rival Jon Jones.

The CSAC also ordered Drew Dober to move up from lightweight to welterweight because his fight-day weight was roughly 183 pounds. With the lightweight limit being 155 pounds and with Dober coming in 18 percent above the division’s limit, he will now have to campaign as a full-blown 170-pounder, in relation to the commission’s new 10-point plan that was passed early this year.

Other UFC 214 medical suspensions include: Tonya Evinger is suspended for 45 days with 30 days of no contact following her knockout loss to Cristiane Justino; Jimi Manuwa is suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact and 60 days no contact until cleared by a doctor due to his knockout loss; Jason Knight is suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact; Renato Moicano is suspended 180 days with 180 days no contact or until he’s cleared by a doctor stemming from a possible broken jaw; Andre Fili suspended 60 days with 60 days no contact or until cleared by a physician for his fight eyelid laceration; Kailin Curran suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact; Josh Burkman suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact from knockout; and Alexandra Albu suspended 45 days with 30 days no contact and 60 days no contact or until cleared by a doctor for nose laceration and 180 days no contact or until cleared by a CT scan for possible left orbital fracture.

All others on the card are suspended for a mandatory seven days to heal from their respective bouts.
