Daniel Cormier wants to close the book on the Cinderella story of Derrick Lewis.
Cormier hit the scales at 251.2 pounds, as he prepares to defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight title for the first time against Lewis (264.6) in the UFC 230 main event this Saturday at Madison Square Garden in New York. At 251.2 pounds, this is the heaviest that champion Cormier has weighed in his combined UFC/Strikeforce career. Co-headlining the card will be former middleweight champion Chris Weidman (186) against Ronaldo Souza (185.4), who both made weight without issue at Friday’s early weigh-ins.
UFC 230 “Cormier vs. Lewis,” which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, also features a middleweight showdowns between former World Series of Fighting two-division champion David Branch (185.6) and former heavyweight Jared Cannonier (184.8), Karl Roberson (184.6) and Jack Marshman (185.4), and Derek Brunson (185.8) against the undefeated Israel Adesanya (184.8), all of whom hit their marks.
Two preliminary fighters did miss weight, including the fighter formerly slated as half of the main event of this card, Sijara Eubanks (127.2). Also heavy was Brian Kelleher (137), and both fighters will be fined 20% of their purses.
