UFC 274 Weigh-in Results: Charles Oliveira Loses Lightweight Title on the Scale

Charles Oliveira's lightweight title run comes to an embarrassing end, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion failed to make weight for his UFC 274 title defense against Justin Gaethje.

The drama began as Oliveira missed weight during his initial weigh-in by .5 pounds, which came as a surprise considering the Brazilian posted on social media on Friday morning that his weight was on point. "Do Bronx" then took an extra hour to cut weight, but once again weighed in half a pound over championship weight. As a result, Oliveira is stripped of the title, and only Gaethje can walk out as champion on Saturday night.

Thankfully, there was no issue in the co-main event, which sees Rose Namajunas put her strawweight belt on the line against former champion Carla Esparza, who holds a 2014 win over "Thug Rose." The rest of the card made weight, except for Norma Dumont, who came in .5 pounds over the featherweight limit and has been fined 30% of her purse as a result.

Having shown plenty of talent throughout his career, Oliveira (32-8, 1 NC) had seemingly put it all together after many career setbacks, although weight cutting is clearly still an issue. The impressive wins streak that "do Bronx" is currently on dates back to 2018. After winning the vacant title after picking up a comeback TKO victory over Michael Chandler, the Brazilian followed it up with a rear-naked choke submission over Dustin Poirier in his most recent fight. The disappointed former champion officially weighed 155.5 pounds, and even if he gets his hand raised on Saturday night, the belt will remain vacant.

A former interim champion, Gaethje's own impressive win streak was snapped by Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2020. Since then, "The Highlight" lived up to his nickname by winning a "Fight of the Year" battle with Michael Chandler late last year. Gaethje (23-3) weighed 155 pounds on the dot for his second crack at the undisputed title, and he can claim the vacant strap with a victory.

UFC 274's main card will stream on ESPN+ pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on Saturday. Prelims begin on ESPN+ and UFC Fight Pass at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT and will continue on ESPN and ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
