Ex-UFC talent Aaron Rosa has signed with Bellator and will make his promotional debut against tournament veteran Mikhail Zayats at Bellator 103.
The Oct. 11 event will also feature a lightweight contest pitting David Rickels against J.J. Ambrose, as well as the semifinals of Bellator’s Season 9 featherweight tournament, in which Justin Wilcox and Patricio Freire face Joe Taimanglo and Fabricio de Assis Costa da Silva, respectively. Bellator 103 takes place at Kansas Star Casino in Wichita, Kansas, and the evening’s main card airs live on Spike TV.
Rosa, 30, last competed in March 2012, when he suffered a first-round technical knockout at the hands of power-puncher James Te Huna. The Texan debuted with the UFC as a heavyweight in 2011, falling to Joey Beltran in a bout that snapped his four-fight winning streak. Rosa rebounded from the defeat, however, dropping to light heavyweight and scoring a majority decision win over Matt Lucas.
Zayats, 31, had a seven-fight winning streak halted in his last in-cage appearance, when he was outpointed by Emanuel Newton in the Season 8 light heavyweight tournament finals. Prior to that setback, the Russian secured consecutive finishes to advance in the bracket, knocking out ex-UFC title challenger Renato Sobral in January before submitting Jacob Noe with an armbar one month later.
