UFC Announces Return to Mexico City for Fight Night Card on Aug. 5

The Ultimate Fighting Championship will return to Mexico for a fifth time this summer.

The Las Vegas-based promotion will head to Mexico City for a card, likely to be entitled UFC Fight Night 114, on Aug. 5. No bouts were revealed for the event, which will air on Fox Sports 1 and take place at Mexico City Arena. The UFC has already held three events in Mexico City and one in Monterrey since breaking ground South of the Border.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing another live event to Mexico City and the Arena Ciudad Del Mexico,” UFC Senior Vice President of International and Content Joe Carr said in a release. “Fans in this country have proven to be some of our most knowledgeable and passionate in the world. We are firmly committed to the Mexican market and our talent development efforts here, which have resulted in rising stars like Yair Rodriguez and Brandon Moreno. UFC will continue to be the MMA leader in Latin America and home to the region’s top talent.”

The organization last appeared in Mexico City at UFC Fight Night 98 on Nov. 5, when Tony Ferguon took a five-round decision over former 155-pound champ Rafael dos Anjos in the evening’s main event. Mexican stars who could compete on the card include Yair Rodriguez, who faces Frankie Edgar at UFC 211 on Saturday, and rising flyweight prospect Brandon Moreno, who has been victorious in his first three Octagon appearances.
