Chan Sung Jung received a little something extra for his long-awaited Octagon return.
In his first bout in more than three years, “The Korean Zombie” garnered a $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus for his first-round knockout of Dennis Bermudez in the UFC Fight Night 104 headliner on Saturday in Houston. A perfectly-timed counter uppercut dropped Bermudez almost instantly, and a couple follow-up punches gave Jung the victory at the 2:29 mark of the period.
Elsewhere, natural light heavyweight Marcel Fortuna made the most of his short-notice opportunity, earning a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his first-round knockout of Anthony Hamilton in a heavyweight clash. An overhand right from the California resident landed clean on Hamilton’s left temple, sending him face-first to the canvas and giving Fortuna the win 3:10 into the first frame.
Finally, Jessica Andrade and Angela Hill banked $50,000 apiece for their “Fight of the Night” in a featured strawweight clash. While Hill hung tough throughout, she was ultimately no match for Andrade’s striking volume and pressure. Andrade would win a unanimous decision, solidifying her spot as a top 115-pound championship contender.
