While the combat sports world has not seen Lyoto Machida in more than 800 days, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight titleholder will not be eased back into circulation.
Machida tipped the scales at 185 pounds ahead of his five-round clash with Jackson-Wink MMA standout Derek Brunson (185) in the UFC Fight Night 119 main event on Saturday at Geraldo Jose de Almeida Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Meanwhile, welterweight co-headliners Colby Covington (171) and Demian Maia (171) also met their contracted weight requirements at Friday’s official weigh-in.
UFC Fight Night “Brunson vs. Machida” -- which airs live on Fox Sports 1 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- also features a lightweight encounter pitting Francisco Trinaldo (155) against Jim Miller (155), a middleweight tilt matching Thiago Santos (186) with Jack Hermansson (185) and a pair of bantamweight battles, as Pedro Munhoz (136) meets Rob Font (136) and John Lineker (136) faces Marlon Vera (135).
