Melinda Fabian vs. Ji Yeon Kim

Round 1

The flyweights spend the majority of round one striking from range, with Kim connecting on several hard right hands, marking up Fabian’s left eye. Fabian attempts to slow things down and do some work in the clinch toward the end of the frame, but it’s the Hungarian who heads back to her corner bloodied. 10-9 Kim.

Round 2

Kim backs up Fabian with another sequence of punches, then has to separate after Fabian initiates another clinch on the fence. Fabian’s most effective weapon has been her leg kick, while Kim continues to connect with the harder punches. One cracking right hand snaps back Fabian’s head in the final 10 seconds, sending her shooting for a takedown that’s denied by Kim. 10-9 Kim.

Round 3

Kim opens the final frame with pressure, moving forward on Fabian with combinations. Fabian backpedals, looking for an opportunity to tie up, which she finds in the third minute as she pushes Kim to the fence once again. Fabian is unable to secure a takedown or do much significant damage in the tie-up before the horn. 10-9 Kim (30-27 Kim).

The Official Result

Ji Yeon Kim def. Melinda Fabian via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) R3 5:00

Jenel Lausa vs. Yuta Sasaki

Round 1

Sasaki goes sprinting across the cage at the opening horn, shooting straight for the legs of the boxer Lausa and working for a takedown at the fence. “Ulka” completes the takedown in the opening minute, now tries to navigate past Lausa’s guard. Lausa climbs back to his feet toward the middle of the round but cannot free himself, and now Sasaki secures another takedown. Sasaki moves to side control this time, then full mount, and finally back-mount. Sasaki tries an armbar just before the horn, but Lausa is saved by the bell. 10-9 Sasaki.

Round 2

Sasaki takes the better part of a minute to shoot for a takedown, scoring with a nice body kick as he circles with Lausa. When the takedown attempt does come, Lausa shuts it down. Sasaki goes low for a single-leg, but again Lausa is able to sprawl. The second effort yields a takedown for Sasaki, who once again passes to side control on Lausa’s left. Sasaki steps over to mount, drops a few punches and then half-steps out of the mount position. As soon as Lausa begins to turn, Sasaki whips his left arm around the Filipino’s throat. Seconds later, Sasaki is bearing down on a rear-naked choke, and Lausa has no choice but to tap.

The Official Result

Yuta Sasaki def. Jenel Lausa via Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R2 4:04

Naoki Inoue vs. Matt Schnell

Round 1

Schnell finds success with his left hand in the opening round, faking a level-change and then coming upstairs to pop Inoue with a speedy hook. Inoue starts to find his range toward the middle of the frame, sticking Schnell with jabs and short left hooks, well-timed counters to the American’s leg kicks. 10-9 Inoue.

Round 2

Schnell does better to avoid the hands of Inoue in the second stanza, instead keeping to the outside and landing low kicks on the taller man. The fake shot-to-left hand is still working for the American as well. “Danger” is sticking some good jabs and countering Inoue’s kicks now, though the Japanese fighter is still having success with his long, speedy jabs. Late in the round, Schnell sidesteps a teep kick and comes back at Inoue with a pair of hard counters. 10-9 Schnell.

Round 3

Inoue goes straight after a takedown on the fence, but Schnell is able to resist the prospect’s deep single-leg attempt. Inoue lands a few knees as the flyweights battle in the clinch, but it’s Schnell exiting the tie-up with a left hand. Inoue looks to be the aggressor in the latter half of the final frame, whereas Schnell had been moving forward for much of the first two rounds. Neither man is particularly busy or dominant down the stretch, but it’s Inoue who raises his hands in victory when the final horn sounds. 10-9 Inoue (29-28 Inoue).

The Official Result

Matt Schnell def. Naoki Inoue via Split Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) R3 5:00

Viviane Pereira vs. Xiaonan Yan

Round 1

Yan uses side kicks and long punches to keep the diminutive Pereira on the outside of her striking range. “Sucuri” is waiting with a right hand when Yan does come close enough, so Yan keeps her distance as she circles around the Brazilian in the center of the cage. Despite Yan landing the higher volume, Pereira may have had the harder strikes in the round with her few counter right hands. 10-9 Pereira.

Round 2

Yan does better to stay out of range of Pereira’s bombing right hand in the second, instead marking up the Brazilian with long right hands and combinations. Yan mixes in some low kicks before Pereira barges her way inside and lands the right again. Yan comes over the top with a right of her own, continuing to work long-range striking against the shorter woman in the final minute. 10-9 Yan.

Round 3

Pereira tries to up her aggression as the final round begins, but unfortunately for the Brazilian, keeping Yan on her back foot does not neutralize her reach advantage. Yan seems satisfied to score from the outside, peppering Pereira with jabs and side kicks as the time ticks away. Pereira puts her head down and finds the mark with a few windmill-style punches, then goes hard for the finish in the final 10 seconds, but it may be too little, too late. 10-9 Yan (29-28 Yan).

The Official Result

Xiaonan Yan def. Viviane Pereira via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) R3 5:00

Jake Matthews vs. Shinsho Anzai

Round 1

Anzai comes out aggressive, trying to back up Matthews to the fence so the “Animal” can set up some of his wrestling. Matthews lands a counter hook, then a knee as Anzai shoots on his legs. Anzai can’t get the takedown, so he comes back up to clinch with Matthews on the wall. After landing another knee, Matthews breaks loose, catches Anzai in the collar tie and feeds him a few uppercuts. Now it’s Matthews dropping levels for a knee-tap takedown, then posturing up in Anzai’s butterfly guard. Anzai gives up his back after eating a few punches, and it’s only a matter of seconds before Matthews chokes him unconscious with a rear-naked choke.

The Official Result

Jake Matthews def. Shinsho Anzai via Technical Submission (Rear-Naked Choke) R1 2:44

Hector Aldana vs. Kenan Song

Round 1

Aldana catches a left hand in the opening minute which leaves him bleeding from somewhere around his right eye. As the fighters continue to circle, Aldana spins Song around with a hard low kick, but has some trouble putting hands on the taller man. Song lands a body kick, but it’s caught by Aldana and converted to a takedown. Song is back on his feet in a hurry to resume his jabbing and leg-kicking. However, it’s Aldana who once again catches a kick, drags Song toward him and then takes him to the mat. 10-9 Aldana.

Round 2

Song continues to keep his range against the shorter man as the second round begins, while Aldana continues to attack with vicious low kicks and big power punches. One exchange yields a left hook for Song which appears to stagger Aldana. Suddenly, it’s Song pressing forward, sizing up Aldana with jabs and kicks. If Aldana was hurt, he appears to have recovered now -- although now, Song gives him something else to worry about with an inadvertant low blow, a push kick aimed at Aldana’s midsection. Aldana comes back to fight, and almost out of nowhere, Song floors him with a plunging straight right hand. Aldana hits the deck, and a few follow-up punches from Song are all that referee Thomas Fan needs to see in order to stop the bout.

The Official Result

Kenan Song def. Hector Aldana via TKO (Punches) R2 4:42

Rolando Dy vs. Shane Young

Round 1

Young declines to touch gloves with Dy, who soon finds himself defending a single-leg takedown attempt. Dy fights off the shot but eats a few strikes as Young disengages. The boxer Dy strings together a few punching combinations, but it’s Young who does the first real damage of the round with a cracking right hand that nearly folds Dy in two. Dy is moving a little slower now, and he’s unable to defend when Young comes looking for a takedown. Dy tries a spinning kick and gets tagged with a one-two for his trouble. Late in the round, Dy appears to complain of a low blow, but referee John Sharp does not intervene, so Young goes on the attack with a late surge. 10-9 Young.

Round 2

Young completes an early takedown but once again is unable to keep Dy on the mat at the base of the fence. Young sticks a jab, steps in to clinch, then disengages with an elbow that leaves Dy with a bloody nose. The next combo from Young leaves Dy with a cut on his brow, and now Young really looks to be taking charge. Halfway through the round, Dy’s face is a bloody mess, and Young continues to bring the pressure. Young scores with uppercuts in the collar tie, and Dy comes away from the clinch with his hands dropping low. Young staggers Dy with a short right hand on the chin, and Dy backs up to the fence, covering his face with both hands. Referee Sharp gives Dy a moment to recover, but Young is unrelenting and forces the Australian ref into a stoppage.

The Official Result

Shane Young def. Rolando Dy via TKO (Punches) R2 4:40

Felipe Arantes vs. Yadong Song

Round 1

Song finds some early success with speedy body-head combinations in the pocket, thwarting Arantes’ attempts to step inside. The Team Alpha Male representative continues to dig into Arantes’ body with hard right hands, now goes upstairs with a kick for the Brazilian’s face. Arantes tries a kick of his own and gets tripped to the floor, where Song tries to produce a finish with punches from side control. Arantes slows things down by putting Song in half guard, now full guard, but it’s Song who finishes the round on top. 10-9 Song.

Round 2

Song comes out with guns blazing, rushing across the cage to attack Arantes with a flurry of kicks and punches. Arantes seems frustrated as he tries a blitz of his own, but he overcommits to the attack and soon finds himself underneath Song on the ground, in the same position from round one. This time, however, Song sits up in Arantes’ guard and delivers some hard elbows to the face of the Brazilian. Arantes wraps up tight, so Song switches to body punches as he works on top. Arantes looks to be fading as he rolls to his knees and covers up, then allows Song to set up a slow-motion arm-triangle choke. Song hops off to Arantes’ left side and tries to sink his hips to the mat, but Arantes hooks his own leg and fends off the choke attempt. Song finds himself in side control, tries to step over to mount and gets pushed away by Arantes, who clambers back to his feet with under 60 seconds on the clock. Arantes looks for a late takedown of his own, gets turned around on the fence. Inside the 10-second warning, Song takes a step back and lays waste to Arantes with a slashing elbow over the top. Arantes hits the floor, and referee Neil Swailes is on his way in to stop the fight before Song can add further damage.

The Official Result

Yadong Song def. Felipe Arantes via KO (Elbow) R2 4:59

Teruto Ishihara vs. Petr Yan

Round 1

Yan works from the center of the cage, bringing pressure to Ishihara around the outside. Ishihara’s leg kicks and jabs are the better strikes in the early going, and now the Team Alpha Male fighter explodes into a takedown in the center of the cage. Yan jumps back to his feet in a hurry and resumes his forward pressure on the Japanese southpaw. Suddenly, a left hand to the jaw sends Ishihara crashing to the floor. Nearly knocked out, Ishihara somehow recovers and climbs back to his feet, but Yan won’t give him any space to recover. Yan takes a step back to size up Ishihara for another thunderous punch, again planting “Yashabo” on the mat. Referee Steve Perceval needs to see no more, stepping in between Yan and the barely conscious Ishihara, and waving an end to the contest.

The Official Result

Petr Yan def. Teruto Ishihara via TKO (Punches) R1 3:28

Daichi Abe vs. Jingliang Li

Round 1

Abe switches between stances as he fires a few kicks at Li’s legs in the opening minute. Li returns with half a dozen heavy inside leg kicks of his own. Low kicks remain the weapon of choice for both men through the first half of the round; Abe tries to go upstairs with a left high kick and is blocked. Abe sticks a jab as he presses forward, then throws a low kick and gets countered over the top. Li follows up with three more leg kicks, one of which is caught by Abe, who can’t convert the takedown. A right hook from Li appears to stun Abe, putting the Pancrase veteran on his back foot. Abe looks to have recovered fully as the hit the final 60 seconds, still landing some clean right-handed counters, though being outworked by Li. With 30 seconds left, Li gets caught sleeping and staggered with a plunging right. Abe doesn’t go hard for the finish, and Li is back on steady legs before round’s end. 10-9 Li.

Round 2

Li goes straight back to chopping at the left leg of Abe with heavy inside low kicks in the opening minute of round two. “The Leech” ducks under an Abe right hand and turns the Japanese fighter’s head with a nasty right-handed counter. Abe checks Li’s next leg kick, but it lands with a thwack anyway. Li comes over the top with a big right hand, then sends Abe reeling with an uppercut. Abe stumbles away, balancing himself with the help of the fence; Li doesn’t pounce, instead mashing his gloves and confidently walking down his wounded opponent. Back to striking from range, Li goes back to his leg kicks, while Abe finds a home for a hard right hand over the top. Li ducks down and comes over the top with a sledgehammer right. Abe eats the full force of the punch but hardly registers it, though he’s forced to back up as Li brings the pressure. Li narrowly misses with a flying knee, backs up and resets before walking down Abe once again in the closing seconds. 10-9 Li.

Round 3

Li looks emboldened as the final round begins, looking for power punches and flashy spinning strikes as he walks down Abe with impunity. In betwen blistering low kicks, “The Leech” is tagging Abe with some whipping punches. To his credit, Abe isn’t going anywhere and continues to eat everything the Chinese fighter throws his way. Halfway through, however, the third has been Abe’s least successful round, lacking the counterpunches he scattered throughout the first 10 minutes. Li’s right hand is finding its mark every time now, marking up Abe’s face and keeping him stuck in reverse. Down the stretch, Li is landing at will, picking at Abe with leg kicks and right hands. Abe does find a home for one heavy right hand as they hit the 60-second mark, but Li wears it well and keeps coming forward to connect with a final right of his own. 10-8 Li (30-26 Li).

The Official Result

Jingliang Li def. Daichi Abe via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) R3 5:00

Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Jessica Eye

Round 1

Eye overreaches on her first punch and gets her head pushed back by Clark’s counter right. Eye resets and hits the Australian with a right hand of her own, then denies a clinch attempt. A hard, straight right finds the side of Clark’s head as Eye catches her leaning. The feeling-out process continues through the middle of the round, when Eye begins mixing in some kicks to the legs and body. Both fighters try to press inside with jabs, but neither is able to find a big shot once they’re within range. Eye bursts forward in the final 20 seconds with a combination that puts Clark on the retreat. 10-9 Eye.

Round 2

Clark charges inside with a combination and clips Eye with a short left hook on the end of it. Eye continues to weild the more technical, measured strikes, picking at Clark with jabs and leg kicks. “Jessy Jess” is still having some success with her right hand, however. Clark slips while throwing a kick and drops to guard, then tries to drive forward and is caught in a front headlock as she drives Eye to the fence. The flyweights separate and go back to circling; their positions remain similar, with Clark trying to explode on Eye with power as she works from the center, and Eye working from distance with long jabs and kicks. 10-9 Eye.

Round 3

Eye finished round two with some body work, and she goes back to the midsection of Clark early in the final frame. The American is mixing up her strikes now, attacking the legs, body and head with a variety of punches and kicks. Clark times one kick well, however, and cracks Eye with a slashing elbow on the counter. Halfway through the round, Eye tries a takedown and gets denied with the whizzer. The next trip attempt from “Evil” Eye yields a takedown in the center of the cage, with Clark planted flat on her back. Eye postures up in half guard, looking to advance, then settles for some grinding elbow strikes. Clark is having a rough time here, taking elbows and forearms to the face and throat while Eye leans across her body, hunting for an arm. Clark cedes side control but manages to survive Eye’s ground-and-pound to hear the final horn. 10-9 Eye (30-27 Eye).

The Official Result

Jessica Eye def. Jessica-Rose Clark via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) R3 5:00

Ovince St. Preux vs. Tyson Pedro

Round 1

St. Preux opens with a body kick and a few left hands from the southpaw stance, but he has to block a quick high kick from Pedro. Forty seconds in, Pedro goes back upstairs with a right high kick that stuns “OSP.” Pedro puts the St. Preux on his seat with a follow-up right hand, then tries a guillotine choke but can’t find the angle against the taller man. Pedro releases the choke and hits St. Preux with an elbow before shoving him against the fence. Pinning the American to the wall with an underhook, Pedro mashes away with knees and foot stomps before briefly tripping St. Preux to the mat. Pedro tries a bodylock takedown, but he botches it and leaves St. Preux in top position, nearly in mount. Suddenly, the tides have turned, as St. Preux postures up to land some heavy ground-and-pound. Leaning left to right across Pedro’s body, St. Preux gets a grip on the Australian’s right arm and wrenches it out. Pedro resists for a moment, but the straight armlock is fully locked on and he’s soon forced to tap.

The Official Result

Ovince St. Preux def. Tyson Pedro via Submission (Straight Armbar) R1 2:54

Donald Cerrone vs. Leon Edwards

Round 1

English referee Leon Roberts has the assignment for tonight’s 170-pound main event, scheduled for five rounds. Edwards works from the center, pressing forward on Cerrone in the southpaw stance. Cerrone takes a hard kick to the midsection, gives Edwards one to the leg in return. Edwards wraps up and pushes Cerrone against the fence, tries to trip him to the ground but can’t get “Cowboy” off balance. Cerrone balances on one leg with a knee shield up the center as Edwards tries to make something happen on the fence. The welterweights separate and go back to their positions from the start of the round. Cerrone lands a leg kick, tries a shot of his own and gets stood up. Edwards hits Cerrone with a few knees, then catches the American in a headlock but can’t do anything with it. Cerrone is sporting a small cut on the outside corner of his right eye as they hit the halfway point of a busy opening frame. Edwards blocks a high kick, hits Cerrone with a few leg kicks, then goes upstairs with a left high kick which Cerrone partially absorbs with his right arm. Inside the final minute of round one, the welterweights exchange low kicks, and “Rocky” plants some hard jabs on Cerrone’s damaged right eye. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 2

Edwards hits Cerrone with a heavy body kick, takes one in return, then loops his right arm around the American’s neck to slam his damaged eye with a pair of left elbows. The tactic works, as Cerrone’s cut immediately begins flowing again after being staunched by the cutman between rounds. Cerrone gets hold of a leg and drives Edwards against the fence. As he leans over to work the single-leg, Cerrone leaves his right eye exposed to more elbows from Edwards, who takes the opportunity to drill Cerrone with a few shots. “Cowboy” releases the leg and backs up, then tries to come forward on Edwards and walks into a punishing jab. Cerrone seems to be freezing up a bit in the second half of the round, but he strings together a decent combination as they enter the final minute. Unfortunately for Cerrone, his next strike is a front kick that lands on the cup of Edwards. The fight resumes with 40 seconds left; Edwards tries a takedown, gets stuffed and gives Cerrone a hard knee to the gut. Cerrone separates and lands a head kick, but Edwards seems unfazed as he turns to referee Roberts, complaining that Cerrone grabbed the inside of his glove. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 3

Cerrone comes out with renewed aggression as the third round begins, marching forward on Edwards with hard punches and kicks both low and high. Edwards slows the American’s roll with a right hand that snaps back Cerrone’s head. Cerrone keeps coming, however, and slugs Edwards with a clean uppercut. Edwards wears the punch well, but he’s increasingly stuck on his back foot as Cerrone continues to apply pressure. Halfway through the round, and potentially the bout, Cerrone puts Edwards on the fence. The clinch doesn’t last long, but Cerrone comes straight back inside to shoot for a takedown. Edwards fends it off and hits Cerrone with another clinch elbow before disengaging. Cerrone grabs for another single as they hit the 70-second mark, but again Edwards is able to stand him up. Cerrone tries a Superman punch but only gets tied up by Edwards, who’s dropping his hands low, inviting “Cowboy” to strike. 10-9 Cerrone.

Round 4

Edwards keeps a wide stance as the extra rounds begin, seemingly waiting for an opportunity to counter. Sure enough, when Cerrone throws a left low kick, “Rocky” comes over the top with a left hand on the other side. Cerrone slips and gets chopped to the ground, though he’s able to spring back to his feet before Edwards can inflict any damage. Ninety seconds in, Cerrone uses double underhooks to shove Edwards against the fence. Referee Roberts is having a close look, perhaps preemptively warning Cerrone for grabbing the fence behind Edwards’ back. As they disengage, Roberts tells the welterweights to “keep it clean” in the clinch. Cerrone continues marching forward and walks straight into a hard left hand, though he walks through it to put Edwards on the fence again. With 90 seconds left, Cerrone scores a takedown, and Edwards is warned by the ref for grabbing the fence on the way down. Edwards soon works back to his feet, separating from Cerrone with an elbow as they enter the final minute. Cerrone catches a left high kick on his shoulder and tries to hurl Edwards to the ground; “Rocky” manages to keep his balance and circles away. Cerrone narrowly blocks a left high kick, taking a foot to the mouth, and he gives Edwards one in return at the horn. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 5

Cerrone is on the march early in the final frame, trying to walk down Edwards, who still looks fresh as he circles off his back foot, occasionally stopping to jab or leg-kick. “Cowboy” is coming forward but not producing as much as Edwards. Referee Roberts warns Edwards for leaving his fingers outstretched as he maintains distance with an open right hand. Cerrone lands a leg kick, then throws one to the body and eats a short punch from Edwards before he can reclaim the limb. Edwards goes up top with another left high kick, slapping Cerrone’s face and sending him inside for a clinch. Cerrone hits a trip takedown with 90 seconds left to fight, landing in side control and wrapping his arms tight round Edwards’ body. Thirty seconds later, without much action on the mat, “Rocky” climbs back to his feet and begins kicking at Cerrone’s legs as the seconds tick down. Cerrone tries to mount some last-second offense, and Edwards is willing to trade, but all they receive is a late warning from referee Roberts to be mindful of head clashes. 10-9 Edwards (49-46 Edwards).

The Official Result

Leon Edwards def. Donald Cerrone via Unanimous Decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47) R5 5:00
