Four men walked away from UFC Fight Night 30 with an extra $50,000 in hand, including main event winner Lyoto Machida, who was awarded “Knockout of the Night” for his first-round stoppage of Mark Munoz.
Nicholas Musoke picked up “Submission of the Night” honors for his finish of Alessio Sakara, while Luke Barnatt and Andrew Craig earned “Fight of the Night’ for their hard-fought middleweight bout. UFC Fight Night 30 took place at Phones4U Arena in Manchester, England, and aired live on Fox Sports 2.
Machida wasted no time in establishing the range in his middleweight debut, keeping his powerful opponent at bay with hard kicks to the legs and body before going upstairs. Though Munoz managed to partially block the strike, Machida’s high kick nevertheless put him down and earned “The Dragon” his first win at 185 pounds.
Both Musoke and Sakara wobbled the other with punches in the early moments of their middleweight showdown, but Musoke brought a swift end to the contest from his back midway through the frame, forcing “Legionarius” to submit to a belly-down armbar.
Though Craig landed the harder shots early in his showdown with Barnatt, it was the Brit who floored the American with a clean combination to end round one. That trend would continue into the second stanza, as the undefeated Englishman put Craig down once again before tapping him with a rear-naked choke.
