Four men took home an extra $50,000 for their efforts Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 36, including middleweight headliners Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi, who shared “Fight of the Night” honors.
Machida proved to be a step too fast for “The Dreamcatcher” in their pivotal 185-pound showdown from Arena Jaragua Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, continually catching Mousasi with kicks to the legs, body and head en route to earning a five-round unanimous decision victory.
Silva made quick work of fellow welterweight Takenori Sato, hurting the Japanese talent with a body kick before polishing him off with a series of hard punches while defending a desperation single-leg takedown.
Oliveira had a tougher time in his featherweight clash with Andy Ogle, who proved to be a game test for the lanky Brazilian despite Oliveira taking his back for most of round one. Nevertheless, Oliveira finally found his finish in the third frame, catching the Brit in a fight-ending triangle choke.
