UFC Fight Night 36 Weigh-In Results: Lyoto Machida, Gegard Mousasi Cleared in Brazil

Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi plan to provide further clarity for the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s middleweight division.

Machida tipped the scales at 185 pounds for his five-round battle with Mousasi (186) in the UFC Fight Night 36 main event on Saturday at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil. Middleweight co-headliners Ronaldo Souza (185) and Francis Carmont (185) also met their contracted weight requirements without issue at Friday’s official weigh-in.

A former light heavyweight champion, Machida seems to be on the fast track at 185 pounds. The 35-year-old last appeared at UFC Fight Night 30 in August, when he chopped down Mark Munoz with a first-round head kick at the Phones 4U Arena in Manchester, England. Some of MMA’s most prominent names dot the Machida resume, as he owns victories over six former UFC titleholders: Rich Franklin, B.J. Penn, Tito Ortiz, Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and Randy Couture. “The Dragon” has compiled a 12-4 record since arriving in the Octagon in February 2007.

Mousasi has not competed since undergoing reconstructive knee surgery. The 28-year-old Dutchman last fought at UFC on Fuel TV 9 in April, when he picked apart Ilir Latifi en route to a unanimous decision at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. Mousasi has secured 29 of his 34 professional victories by knockout, technical knockout or submission, a staggering 26 of them inside one round. A former Dream and Strikeforce champion, he will enter the cage on the strength of a four-fight winning streak.

UFC Fight Night 36 -- which airs on Fox Sports 1 at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT -- will also feature a welterweight duel pairing former Jungle Fight champion Erick Silva (170) with Takenori Sato (170), a featherweight scrap pitting Macaco Gold Team’s Charles Oliveira (143) against Andy Ogle (146) and a welterweight clash matching “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” Season 2 alum Viscardi Andrade (170) with Nicholas Musoke (170).

Three hours prior, UFC Fight Pass will stream the entire seven-fight undercard: Cristiano Marcello (156) vs. Joe Proctor (155), Ivan Jorge (156) vs. Rodrigo Damm (156), Francisco Trinaldo (155) vs. Jesse Ronson (156), Iuri Alcantara (136) vs. Wilson Reis (135), Felipe Arantes (146) vs. Maximo Blanco (*145), Ildemar Alcantara (171) vs. Albert Tumenov (170) and Zubaira Tukhugov (146) vs. Douglas Silva de Andrade (145).
