The news of who is fighting whom on the UFC Fight Night 96 card is coming in as fast as a shark. On the heels of four bouts being announced this week, it’s been reported on Wednesday by the Los Angeles Daily News that Hacran Dias will take on Brian Ortega in a featherweight encounter.
UFC officials have yet to formally announce the pairing, which will go down on Oct. 1 at Moda Center in Portland, Ore.
Unbeaten thus far in his pro career, Californian Ortega is looking to remain perfect when he clashes with Dias. After having his UFC debut win overturned and subsequently being suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing a urinalysis, “T-City” rattled off three straight wins, all by either knockout or submission. He most recently fought at UFC 199 where he knocked out Clay Guida with a knee to the head.
Dias is looking to bounce back from a loss to Cub Swanson in April. “Barnabe” had won two in a row inside the Octagon, this after dropping two straight. A win over the young contender would be huge for the Brazilian, as inactivity and a 2-3 record since 2013 has left him in the shadows at 145 pounds.
UFC Fight Night 96 will be headlined by former Bellator MMA lightweight champion Will Brooks making his promotional debut against Alex Oliveira. Joachim Christensen will take on Luis Henrique da Silva and Joshua Burkman will stand opposite Bobby Green.
After having the prelims streamed live on UFC Fight Pass, the remainder of the card will air live on Fox Sports 1.
