Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Peter Sobotta had been preparing for several weeks to fight submission specialist Sergio Moraes. His plans were altered earlier today when the UFC announced that Sobotta will instead take on Steve Kennedy.

Moraes withdrew from his bout at UFC Fight Night “Jedrzejczyk vs. Penne” due to a back injury sustained in training. The event takes place June 20 at O2 World arena in Berlin, Germany.

Kennedy has won seven in a row entering the contest and hasn’t lost since November 2012. The Aussie has competed for a litany of MMA promoters. His UFC debut, of course, will be the biggest test of his career because he has yet to face the caliber of opponent that is Sobotta.

Sobotta is also enjoying a lengthy unbeaten streak; he’s defeated six straight men, all but one coming via submission. He last toppled Pawel Pawlak in his first fight back in the UFC since losing to Amir Sadollah on the UFC 122 card. However, it’s been over a year since his last MMA fight.
