Light heavyweights Sean O’Connell and Matt Van Buren will square off as part of the undercard for UFC Fight Night “McGregor vs. Siver.”
UFC officials Monday announced the bout via Twitter. The Fox Sports 1-broadcast event takes place Jan. 18 at TD Garden in Boston, headlined by a featherweight duel between Conor McGregor and Dennis Siver.
Both 205-pounders will enter the bout in search of their first UFC victory.
O’Connell, 31, has suffered the first back-to-back losses of his career inside the Octagon, debuting with a knockout loss to Ryan Jimmo before dropping a split decision to Gian Villante in June. “The Real OC” came into the UFC riding a six-fight winning streak, having recorded finishes in 10 of his 15 career victories.
Van Buren, 28, was the runner-up on Season 19 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” succumbing to punches from Corey Anderson just 61 seconds into their tournament final. The Virginia native notched three exhibition wins to earn his spot in the final but has dropped three of his last four official pro bouts.
