The Philadelphian, meanwhile, is a two-time Bellator lightweight champion and his two brawls with Michael Chandler rank among the greatest in recent MMA history. He dropped his UFC debut to Cerrone, but Alvarez rebounded with two huge wins over Gilbert Melendez and Pettis, which led him to Thursday night, where he can become the first fighter in history to capture a world title in both Bellator and UFC.
At Wednesday’s weigh-in, both the champion and the challenger came in right on the money, greenlighting their anticipated showdown. Alvarez was the first to the scale and the Blackzilians rep nailed it; he clocked in at 155 pounds. The Brazilian, meanwhile, was equally on point as “RDA” officially weighed 155, setting the stage for what could be a fight of the year contender.
The co-feature will see fan favorite heavyweight Roy Nelson taking on new rival Derrick Lewis. “Country” checked in at 263 pounds while Lewis tipped the scale at 262.5.
