Rory MacDonald, Patrick Holohan, Chris Kelades and Olivier Aubin-Mercier captured $50,000 post-fight bonuses following UFC Fight Night “MacDonald vs. Saffiedine” at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday.
MacDonald earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his third-round knockout of Tarec Saffiedine. The Canadian welterweight caught the Belgian with a stiff uppercut, dropping him to the mat before finishing the action with vicious shots unabated to the head. Referee Herb Dean called a stoppage to the action at 1:28 in the third frame.
Much earlier in the evening, both Holohan and Kelades each earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for their roles in a barnburner at 125-pounds. Kelades had the hometown crowd in his pocket as he pulled off the tremendous upset over the Irishman on only five days notice. The loss was the first Holohan had suffered in his career.
Mercier earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for finishing his bout against Jake Lindsey with a nifty inverted triangle kimura at the 3:22 mark of round two. The former “TUF: Nations” cast member nearly finished the fight multiple times with his feet, but in the end his high-level judo was the difference, taking the action to the mat and earning the submission.
