Not only did Donald Cerrone return to his winning ways, he recaptured his bonus-hunting magic, as well.
“Cowboy” earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his first-round submission of Alex Oliveira in the UFC Fight Night Pittsburgh headliner at Consol Energy Center on Sunday evening. Cerrone made short work of his Brazilian foe, tapping Oliveira with a triangle choke 2:33 into round one to capture an extra paycheck for the first time in five bouts.
Meanwhile, Chris Camozzi garnered the evening’s other $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus by blasting through fellow veteran Joe Riggs in a featured middleweight bout. “The Ultimate Fighter 11” alum immediately rocked Riggs with a jab before unloading a series of vicious knees to the head that brought halt to the contest 26 seconds after it began.
Finally, Lauren Murphy and Kelly Faszholz took home “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their spirited preliminary bantamweight scrap. Faszholz set the tone early with crisp punching combinations in the opening stanza, but Murphy would not be denied, as she took control over the second half of the bout before ultimately finishing her foe with ground-and-pound from full mount 4:55 into round three.
