Ovince St. Preux, Leandro Silva, Thomas Almeida and Tim Gorman captured $50,000 post-fight bonuses Saturday night following UFC Fight Night “Shogun vs. St. Preux” at Tancredo Neves Municipal Gymnasium in Uberlandia, Brazil.
St. Preux earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus for his first-round technical knockout of Mauricio Rua. The former University of Tennessee Volunteer caught “Shogun” with a left hook, dropping the Brazilian to the mat before finishing the action with vicious shots to the head. Referee Mario Yamasaki called a stoppage to the action only 38 seconds into the first frame.
Silva nabbed a “Performance of the Night” bonus for finishing his bout against Charlie Brenneman with a rear-naked choke at the 4:15 mark of round one. With the win,“Buscape” successfully bounced back from a unanimous decision loss against Francisco Trinaldo in September. The win is Silva’s 10th by way of submission in his career.
Earlier in the evening, Almeida and Gorman put on a “Fight of the Night” barn-burner at 135-pounds. “Thominhas” nearly finished his foe multiple times during the fight, but Gorman showed unreal toughness and managed to last the full 15 minutes. Almeida remains undefeated to start his career, but the win was the first the 23-year-old was unable to stop before reaching the judges’ scorecards.
