UFC Fight Night Weigh-in Results: Rory MacDonald, Tarec Saffiedine Cleared in Canada
Rory
MacDonald likely stands one step away from a shot at the
Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight crown. That step
comes in the form of former Strikeforce
champion Tarec
Saffiedine.
MacDonald checked in at 170 pounds for his critical, five-round battle with Saffiedine (170) in the UFC Fight Night “MacDonald vs. Saffiedine” main event on Saturday at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Bantamweight co-headliners Raphael Assuncao (135) and Bryan Caraway (135) also met their mandated weight requirements without incident at Friday’s official weigh-in.
UFC Fight Night “MacDonald vs. Saffiedine” -- which airs live on Fox Sports 1 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT -- will also feature a lightweight clash pairing “The Ultimate Fighter Nations” winner Chad Laprise (155) with Yosdenis Cedeno (155), a middleweight scrap pitting “The Ultimate Fighter Nations” winner Elias Theodorou (185) against Bruno Santos (185), a welterweight tilt matching Tristar Gym export Nordine Taleb (170) with Jingliang Li (170) and a bantamweight duel between Team Shredder’s Mitch Gagnon (135) and Roman Salazar (135).
Two hours prior, Fox Sports 1 will carry four preliminary bouts: Daron Cruickshank (155) vs. Anthony Njokuani (155), Olivier Aubin-Mercier (155) vs. Jake Lindsey (156), Jason Saggo (155) vs. Paul Felder (155) and Patrick Holohan (125) vs. Chris Kelades (126). The two remaining undercard matches will stream to UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, as Russian prospect Albert Tumenov (170) meets Matt Dwyer (169) and former Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion Pedro Munhoz (135) faces Jerrod Sanders (135).
