UFC Fight Night "Shamrock vs. Ortiz III" Play-By-Play

Sherdog.com's Greg Savage reports from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida with live play-by-play of tonight's UFC Fight Night 7, Headlined by Tito Ortiz (Pictures) vs. Ken Shamrock (Pictures).

Marcus Davis vs. Forrest Petz (Pictures)
Round 1
The fights starts with both fighters trading punches throughout the first four minutes of the bout. Marcus Davis was cut on the bridge of his nose by a Petz punch. With just seconds left in the opening period, Davis locked in a fight ending guillotine choke at the 4:58 mark.

Thiago Alves (Pictures) vs. John Alessio (Pictures)
Round 1
The first period is all Alves. Alessio tried to take the fight to the ground throughout the round, with Alves stuffing every single attempt. Thiago worked Alessio's left leg with inside kicks early in the round then pounded on the outside of the leg as the stanza wore on. Alves found his range on a headkick before the conclusion of the first frame. Sherdog.com scroes it 10-9 for Alves.

Round 2
More of the same in round 2. Alessio continued to get his takedown attempts stuffed and get his lead leg battered by Alves' strong low kicks. Alessio backed Alves against the cage and scored on his first flurry of the fight, but Alves was not stunned. Alessio ended up pulling guard then later scored his first takedown with about 30 seconds left in the round, but was not able to mount any offense. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Alves. It should be noted that Alessio's left leg is in bad shape, and he is not putting any pressure on it in his corner to rest for the third round.

Round 3
The pace in the third frame starts to slow. More leg kicks from Alves take their toll. Alessio took a left kick to the groin and needed a minute to recover. Alessio scores a takedown at the end of the fight but isn't able to do anything . All three judges score the contest 30-27 for Alves.

Josh Haynes (Pictures) vs. Rory Singer
Round 1
Sherdog.com scores the first round 10-9 for Singer. Haynes landed the more effective shots for most of the frame but he barely survived the round after Singer caught him with some heavy strikes that busted Haynes' nose up pretty bad.

Round 2
Big turnaround in the second frame, as Haynes scored big with a left hand followed by an overhead right that put Singer down. Haynes spent the duration of the round punishing Singer with punches from inside Rory's guard. Sherdog.com scores it 10-9 for Haynes.

Round 3
The final period is all Singer. After scoring a takedown the lanky light heavyweight scored with punches from the top position, forcing the referee to stop the fight twice to look at cuts on Haynes' face. All three judges score the bout 29-28 for Rory Singer.

Tony DeSouza (Pictures) vs. Dustin Hazelett (Pictures)
Round 1
Hazelett lands some punches to begin the fight. Desouza scroes a takedown. Hazelett slaps a triangle on that looks deep. Defending the submission then later passing to side-control, Desouza secures a nasty Kimura that forces Dustin to tap out at the 3:59 mark of the first period.

Nathan Marquardt (Pictures) vs. Crafton Wallace (Pictures)
Round 1
Both fighters trade low kicks to start the fight. Big slam and straight into side-control for Marquardt. Wallace was able to half-guard briefly before Nathan moved back to side and spent the rest of the round punishing Wallace with punches and elbows. Sherdog.com scores it 10-9 for Marquardt.

Round 2
Marquardt lands a lowkick to kickoff the second frame. Wallace tries to answer with a kick of his own but Nathan catches it and takes Wallace down. Wallace turns his back and Marquardt slaps on a rear naked choke to end the fight at 1:14 of the second round.

Matt Hamill vs. Seth Petruzelli (Pictures)
Round 1
Hamill shoots in but Petruzelli stuffs. Hamill landed a right elbow before giving up on the takedown attempt and backing out. Petruzelli throws a body kick but Hamill catches it and slings him to the canvas into Seth’s closed guard. Hamill opens up a cut on his opponent’s right eye. Hamill backs up and allows Petruzelli to his feet. Hamill scores a lightning fast double-leg takedown. Hamill lands some heavy strikes from guard. Sherdog.com scores the first round 10-9 for Hamill.

Round 2
Petruzelli’s eye is almost swollen shut as the fighters kick off the second frame. Petruzelli lands a right head kick as Hamill shot in. Hamill was rocked but ends up finishing the takedown. Referee McCarthy restarts the fight due to lack of action. Hamill looks tired as he labors to get the fight to the ground. Hamill scores a takedown with 90 seconds left in the round. Petruzelli’s eye is bleeding badly. Hamill lands a flurry of punches and elbows. Sherdog.com scores the round 10-9 for Hamill.

Round 3
Hamill shoots and scores a quick takedown to start the final period. Hamill continues to work on his opponent’s bleeding eye. Another ref restart from lack of action. Petruzelli locks up a guillotine but Hamill has none of it. Hamill hits another takedown. Hamill now bleeding. “Big” John stops the fight to have the doctor check Seth’s eye. The fight continues. Hamill powers Seth to the canvas once again. The fight ends with Hamill escaping an armbar and controlling. Sherdog.com scores it 10-9 for Hamill.

Ed Herman (Pictures) vs. Jason MacDonald (Pictures)
Round 1
Herman counters a takedown with a whizzer and ends up in MacDonald’s closed guard. The Canadian reverses into side-control and works for an arm-triangle choke from the side, then mount. Herman escapes but finds himself in a triangle choke. MacDonald has the triangle secure and working a Kimura on the exposed arm at the same time. Herman taps with 2:20 left in the first round. Very impressive performance from Jason MacDonald.

The replay shows that MacDonald moved from the mount to the triangle. Herman did not reverse position to set up the final scene of the fight.

Kendall Grove (Pictures) vs. Chris Price
Round 1
Grove lands two right hands to get the action started. Grove scores a single-leg takedown against the cage. Price defending from the bottom while Grove works left and right elbows. Grove goes for a ankle lock then an armbar but Price defends both. Price, a former Marine, now is in top position. Grove sweeps then quickly mounts. Grove pounding away with punches and elbows. Price taps after a barrage of elbows find their target. Kendall Grove wins at 3:59 of the first round.

Tito Ortiz (Pictures) vs. Ken Shamrock (Pictures)

Ken looks relaxed and confident as he walks to the cage. Tito makes his cagewalk to the sounds of Eminem’s “Mosh,” carrying the American flag.

Round 1
Ken shoots for a takedown but Tito stuffs it. Tito muscles Shamrock against the cage. Ken spun for a leg but Tito ends up in Shamrock’s closed guard against the cage. Tito unleashes a torrent of punches that forces McCarthy to stop the fight. Ortiz then does his ditchdigger celebration before the longtime enemies embrace. Ken announces he will retire. Tito thanks Ken for passing the torch, seemingly burying the hatchet between the two fighters.
