Sean O’Connell will attempt to follow up on a highlight-reel performance when he faces light heavyweight up-and-comer Misha Cirkunov next month in Canada.
The 205-pounders are set to square off Aug. 23 at UFC Fight Night “Holloway vs. Oliveira,” which takes place at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The matchup was announced Monday by Ultimate Fighting Championship officials.
O’Connell comes fresh off a devastating, 56-second knockout of Anthony Perosh on May 10 in Australia. It was the second consecutive victory for the Utah fighter, who has righted his ship after starting his Octagon tenure with losses to Ryan Jimmo and Gian Villante.
Cirkunov, who was signed by the UFC last month, holds a professional record of 9-2 with four submissions and three knockouts. The Toronto-based Latvian enters the UFC on a four-fight winning streak, most recently finishing Shaun Asher with an 80-second armbar on May 22.
