UFC Inks Undefeated Swede Papy Abedi to 4-Fight Deal

Highly sought-after Swedish prospect Papy “Makambo” Abedi has signed with the UFC.

Abedi’s manager, Manos Terzitane, Sunday confirmed to Sherdog.com that the 32-year-old judo black belt has inked a four-fight deal with the American promotion.

The Congo-born fighter stands undefeated at 8-0 and has posted finishes in all but one of his fights, including five knockouts and two submissions. Despite previously competing at middleweight, Terzitane told Sherdog.com that Abedi will drop to 170 pounds for his Octagon debut.

Abedi was last seen scoring a submission victory over Nathan Schouteren at Superior Challenge 6 in October. The Stockholm-based fighter was set to make his welterweight debut at Superior Challenge 7, but withdrew from the event due to an undisclosed injury. During the event, Abedi did enter the cage to verbally challenge SC welterweight champion Daniel Acacio, who had beaten Hilti NHB teammates David Bielkheden and Diego Gonzalez. It was rumored that the Abedi-Acacio bout would be featured at October’s Superior Challenge 8.

Abedi becomes the fourth Swede to sign with the UFC, and joins Alexander Gustafsson on the company’s current roster.
