Interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson could be out for a while after undergoing surgery on his left elbow.

Ferguson’s wife, Cristina Ferguson, posted a photo of her husband following the procedure via Instagram. “In good spirits even after elbow surgery,” she wrote. “Praying for a speedy recovery. We love you daddy.”

It is unclear what the timetable is for Ferguson’s recovery. “El Cucuy” captured the interim 155-pound belt with a third-round submission at UFC 216. “The Ultimate Fighter 13” winner has authored a 10-fight winning streak that also includes triumphs over the likes of Rafael dos Anjos, Edson Barboza, Josh Thomson and Gleison Tibau, to name a few.

The 33-year-old Californian has been eyeing a lightweight title unification bout with reigning champion Conor McGregor, but it is unclear if and when the Irishman will return to the Octagon. UFC President Dana White initially claimed that McGregor would compete before the end of the year, but now White has expressed doubts as to whether the “Notorious” one will ever fight again.
