Not only did Alistair Overeem enthrall the home folks in Rotterdam and cement himself as heavyweight title contender with his knockout of Andrei Arlovski, but he also padded his bank account in the process.
Overeem earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for a spectacular stoppage of his Jackson-Wink MMA teammate in the UFC Fight Night headliner on Sunday afternoon. A jumping front kick and a left hook sent Arlovski tumbling to the canvas, and “The Reem” finished off his opponent with a series of right hands at the 1:12 mark of round two.
Stefan Struve earned a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award for his quick knockout of Antonio Silva in the co-main event. “Bigfoot” attempted to force the action from the start of the heavyweight bout but was immediately met by a Struve right hand and uppercut. With his back against the fence, the towering Dutchman then blasted Silva with a knee to the body and finished his stunned foe off with a series of elbows to the side of the head just 16 seconds after the contest began.
Elsewhere, Gunnar Nelson garnered a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” check for his submission of Albert Tumenov in a featured welterweight tilt. Nelson dragged Tumenov to the canvas in the second round and moved to mount with relative ease with approximately three minutes remaining in the period. From there, the Iceland native took his opponent’s back, secured a body triangle and elicited a tapout with a tight neck crank 3:15 into the second frame.
Finally, Germaine de Randamie received the card’s fourth $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for her first-round stoppage of Anna Elmose at bantamweight. The significantly larger Dutchwoman exploited her size advantage, battering her foe with knees in close quarters. One final blow to the midsection brought a halt to the contest 3:46 into the opening stanza.
