UFC Select Part of First Wave of New YouTube Pay Channels
YouTube officials Thursday announced that the video site will now feature pay-to-play channels, and the Ultimate Fighting Championship is in on the ground floor.
The new UFC Select channel will feature access to full event replays, classic fights and full episodes of TV shows like “UFC Unleashed” and “The Ultimate Fighter.” The subscription costs $5.99 per month and the UFC is currently offering a 14-day free trial for the service, which is located at www.youtube.com/ufcselect.
In addition to UFC Select, YouTube now features more than 50 subscription-based channels such as Pets TV, TNA Impact Wrestling, Rap Battle Network and National Geographic Kids. Subscriptions to the channels range from 99 cents to $7.99 per month.
YouTube launched in February 2005 and quickly grew to become one of the most popular video-sharing websites on the Internet. The company was purchased by Google in November 2006 for $1.65 billion and currently operates as a subsidiary of the multinational corporation.
