UFC: Shamrock Ordered to Pay Legal Fees

The UFC announced on Thursday via press release that a Nevada court has granted the promotion’s request that Ken Shamrock pay $175,000 in legal fees stemming from a lawsuit the fighter filed against the organization in 2009.

Shamrock, one of the UFC’s first Hall of Fame inductees, had sued Zuffa, the promotion’s parent company, for an alleged breach of a promotional rights contract that he and Zuffa had agreed to while setting up his final rematch with Tito Ortiz on October 10, 2006.

However, Nevada Judge Susan H. Johnson ruled in favor of Zuffa’s interpretation of the contract last February.

“This latest legal victory on behalf of Zuffa demonstrates, once again, that the UFC is fully committed to vigorously enforcing all of its contractual rights,” read the release. “Judge Johnson has determined Mr. Shamrock’s hard lesson learned in this case will cost him approximately $175,000.”

A representative for Shamrock has been contacted for comment.
