Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Viscardi Andrade is facing suspension after being flagged for a potential violation of the company’s anti-doping policy.
“USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Andrade,” UFC stated. “It is important to note that, under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed, including any ruling on Andrade’s victory over Richard Walsh in Brisbane, Australia on March 20, 2016.
“Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.”
Andrade earned a three-round unanimous decision over Walsh on the preliminary card of UFC Fight Night “Hunt vs. Mir.” The win moved the 32-year-old Brazilian’s Octagon record to 3-1 and came four months after Andrade’s unanimous nod against Gasan Umalatov at a UFC Fight Night event in Sao Paulo.
Andrade is the second UFC fighter in five days to be alerted of a potential anti-doping violation. Last Friday, UFC announced that former heavyweight champion Frank Mir was flagged in a drug test administered on March 19, the day of his knockout loss to Mark Hunt. Mir has since denied using any performance-enhancing drugs.
