Four men walked away from UFC on FX 4 with an extra $50,000, as Sam Stout, Spencer Fisher, Dan Miller and Cub Swanson each pocketed post-fight bonuses.
Stout and Fisher shared “Fight of the Night” honors, while Miller (Pictured, file photo) and Swanson were awarded “Submission of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night,” respectively. UFC on FX 4 took place at Revel Atlantic City in Atlantic City, N.J., and was headlined by a lightweight confrontation between contenders Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.
Stout and Fisher fought a back-and-forth three rounds to cap their lightweight trilogy, but it was Stout who walked away with a unanimous decision win. Though Fisher appeared to get the better of most of the boxing exchanges, Stout’s takedowns made the difference. The victory marks the Canadian’s third win in four fights and gives him a 2-1 edge in his series with “The King.”
Miller appeared to fatigue quickly in his welterweight debut but nevertheless pulled out a victory in the bout’s waning minutes, finishing Ricardo Funch with an arm-in guillotine choke. Though the game Brazilian attempted to escape the hold by somersaulting away from the pressure, Miller wisely followed and landed in mount, tightening his squeeze and forcing Funch to submit.
Swanson was the faster fighter from the get-go in his clash with Ross Pearson, continually snapping out a stiff jab and landing combinations while Pearson launched primarily single shots. Though the Brit proved the aggressor in regard to takedowns, Swanson was able to escape to a vertical base each time his back hit the mat. After exploding to his feet late in round two, the Jackson’s MMA representative caught Pearson with a beautiful combination, cracking the former lightweight with a pair of right straights and a crisp left hook that spelled the end for the former “Ultimate Fighter” winner.
