Francisco Trinaldo vs. C.J. Keith

Round 1
Marc Goddard is the referee for tonight’s opening bout at 155 pounds. Trinaldo crouches low in the southpaw stance and takes an outside leg kick from his lanky, orthodox opponent. The Brazilian wades inside behind an overhand left and gets underhooks against the fence, where he works to take Keith down while throwing knees inside. Keith tries to get out of the position with a whizzer but Trinaldo gets back up, grabs a bodylock and slams Keith to the ground. Trinaldo is nearly in full mount but Keith has his left foot trapped. He extracts it and steps into mount with almost three minutes left in the round. Keith twists around after absorbing a few heavy elbows, nearly giving up his back. Instead, he keeps twisting and puts Trinaldo on his back, where “Massaranduba” throws up his legs for an armbar attempt on Keith’s left arm. Keith steps over and pulls out his arm, landing a couple solid punches on their way back to the feet. Trinaldo gets underhooks again and hits another takedown with 80 seconds left, again into half-guard on Keith’s left side. Trinaldo thumps a couple punches to the body as he works to pass; he gets full mount with seconds remaining and manages a couple punches from on top.

Round 2
Trinaldo sticks Keith with a left hand and Keith backs him off with a body kick. A high kick comes next and Massaranduba counters with another left, then moves inside and clinches the American on the fence. Trinaldo switches from a single-leg to a body lock and sends Keith flying with a suplex. As soon as they hit the floor, Trinaldo is framing up an arm-triangle choke and hopping off to Keith’s left side. It looks tight, but Keith gives the thumbs-up to referee Goddard. It’s too tight, however, and after a few more seconds of Trinaldo’s squeezing, Keith is forced to gently tap out at 1:50 of round one.

Ildemar Alcantara vs. Wagner Prado

Round 1
Mario Yamasaki is the referee for this light heavyweight bout. The Brazilians come out throwing hands, Alcantara trying with straight rights down the pipe as Prado swings wider hooks. Prado is getting the better of the exchange in the opening minute, landing some hard hooks on the Jungle Fight champ before being clinched against the fence with underhooks. Prado gets out and Alcantara is trying to keep him on the outside with front kicks now. Prado has a high kick blocked and eats a short, straight right. Alcantara clinches and throws a knee to the body before releasing. Alcantara is trying to time Prado’s punches and counter with a knee on the shorter man. Prado can’t seem to find a way inside, but he walks Alcantara toward the fence and lands an overhand right. Alcantara snaps off a few nice jabs and he’s got the left eye of Prado dented up. Prado steps in with a good knee to the body and Alcantara immediately takes him down. Prado wraps up Alcantara in his open guard until they’re stood up with 15 seconds left. Prado tries for a takedown, gets denied and lands a right hand before the horn.

Round 2
Alcantara takes a couple more right hands from Prado to open the round before he decides to take the fight to the floor. Prado scrambles out and Alcantara looks to lock up a brabo choke, but Prado is already on top and powers out. Now it’s Prado working from Alcantara’s open guard. Alcantara rolls underneath to go for a leglock. The kneebar doesn’t seem to have much of a chance at first, but Alcantara keeps working and stuffs Prado’s left leg under his right armpit. Prado screams out in pain and ref Yamasaki steps in to wave this one off at 2:39 of round two.

Iuri Alcantara vs. Pedro Nobre

Round 1
Dan Miragliotta is the referee for this bantamweight fight. Alcantara comes straight at Nobre, rushing him with punches and launching a flying knee against the fence. Nobre circles out and lands a front-kick directly to Alcantara’s groin moments later. Alcantara is hurting but he recovers after a moment and they resume. Nobre puts a few good right hands on Alcantara’s cheek, but when he goes to tie up and take it the ground, it’s Alcantara who winds up on top, working for a choke, then an armbar. He switches to a kimura and Nobre appears ready to tap, but he gets to his knees and is able to relieve the pressure on his arm. Alcantara gives up the arm and takes back-mount. He starts slugging away with punches and gets warned by Miragliotta to mind the back of Nobre’s head. Miragliotta pauses the fight and calls the doctor in as Nobre remains prone, face down on the canvas. The doc indicates that the fight is over and Miragliotta waves it off, though replays show that the elbow which allegedly landed on the back of Nobre’s head actually hit him in the ear. Nobre is helped from the cage as the fight is declared a no-contest at 2:11 of the first round.

Edson Barboza vs. Lucas Martins

Round 1
Mario Yamasaki is the referee for this lightweight bout. Just 20 seconds into the fight, the Brazilians throw simultaneous low kicks and Barboza’s catches Martins on the groin. Martins takes a minute to recover and they’re back to work with Barboza moving around the outside, looking to counter. He steps to the center and lands a few leg kicks, still looking to find his range and land right hands on Martins. A stiff jab buckles Martins’ legs, but he tries to stay up. Barboza rushes in on his wobbly opponent, forcing him to the ground at the base of the fence. A few heavy punches from the top position and Martins taps; the end comes officially at 2:38 of round one.

Diego Nunes vs. Nik Lentz

Round 1
Dan Miragliotta is the third man in the cage for this featherweight fight. The Brazilian crowd starts up a chant of “uh, vai morrer!” (“you’re gonna die!”) as soon the fight begins. Lentz doesn’t seem to pay it any mind as he gets inside on Nunes and wraps him up, kneeing to his body as they grapple on the fence. Lentz slams him down, Nunes stands back up and Lentz drags him down again. Lentz quickly sinks in both hooks and punches under Nunes’ armpit to tenderize him for the rear-naked choke. Nunes shakes the hooks and gets to his feet, where he’s met by a series of knees to the face. Back to his knees goes Nunes, to avoid any further knees to the face, so Lentz instead socks him with quick left hands. Trapped against the cage, Nunes just can’t get away from Lentz, who has sunk his hooks back in and keeps the pressure on with punches and elbows to the horn.

Round 2
Forty seconds into the round, Lentz puts Nunes on the canvas with another double-leg takedown. Working from half-guard on Nunes’ left side, “The Carnie” postures up and looks to blast Nunes with hard, short elbow strikes. Lentz lays a forearm across Nunes’ throat and thuds the Brazilian’s body with punches. Lentz is just roughing up the tired-looking Nunes, transitioning from half-guard to cross-side control, then working for the back, all the while keeping busy with punches and grinding elbows. Nunes finally scrambles back up with seconds left in the round and throws a punch which catches Nunes off-balance and knocks him to the ground. Nunes scores with a knee to the body, too, but it’s after the horn.

Round 3
Lentz rushes in to tie up but Nunes stays out of his grasps and backs him off with a punch. Again, Lentz shoots a single, and again Nunes is able to deny the takedown. A sharp combination from Nunes lands and Lentz hits a single-leg, but Nunes is right back up. Lentz dives on a double-leg and Nunes widens his base against the fence, but Lentz keeps trying and gets Nunes where he wants him. Nunes’ right side is flush to the cage, with Lentz leaning left to right in half-guard, dropping knees on Nunes’ body. Ref Miragliotta warns Lentz to keep busy as the fight enters its final three minutes. Nunes gets up momentarily around the 2:00 mark, only to be taken right back down. Lentz keeps grinding and tries to take Nunes’ back as he stands with 50 seconds left on the clock. Nunes gets out and stings Lentz with a knee from the Thai plum. Lentz is dazed and Nunes tries to finish him off with winging punches, but Lentz drives forward and weathers the last-second outburst as time expires.

Official result: The judges score it 30-28, 30-27 and 30-26, all for the winner by unanimous decision, Nik Lentz.

Ronny Markes vs. Andrew Craig

Round 1
Marc Goddard is the referee for this middleweight matchup. Markes rushes in on Craig and gets stunned with a right hook, followed by a left hand. The Brazilian ducks low, can’t get the takedown and instead presses Craig against the fence, where Craig gets underhooks. Markes gets his right arm free and works for an underhook of his own before changing levels and hitting a single-leg. Craig pops up right away but Markes keeps on him and again pushes him into the fence. Markes elevates Craig with a high double and seats him at the base of the fence. Craig tries to post and stand, but Markes controls his legs and keeps him on the floor, where he’s able to take Craig’s back. Markes has a loose body-triangle as he works for a rear-naked choke with just under two minutes remaining. Craig spends the remainder of the round with Markes on his back, dodging the choke and punches, before reversing into the Brazilian’s guard just before time runs out.

Round 2
Markes shoots from way out and has to abandon the takedown attempt. He tries to get in behind a punch and again is turned away. The third try is the charm for Markes, who gets Craig back on the floor with help from the American, who appears to jump guard as he’s being chased down with a single-leg. Markes leans from right to left on Craig in side control and tries to work a kimura on Craig’s far arm. Craig guts it out and pulls his arm free midway through the round, then scoots over to the fence and tries to post up. Markes keeps after him with a body lock and the pace slows further, drawing boos from the Sao Paulo crowd. Markes keeps working for a single-leg while Craig socks him in the face with short punches. They finally split with 30 seconds to go and Markes just circles the perimeter as Craig tries to walk him down.

Round 3
Just a few seconds into the round, Markes has Craig pushed against the fence. They spent the next minute working on the cage, then Craig gets some space and drops Markes with a stiff right hand. The tired Markes falls to the ground awkwardly and Craig gets right on top, pinning down Markes’ left arm from half-guard and dropping punches. Markes gets his arm loose but can’t he’s still trapped underneath Craig, who’s doing all he can to batter Markes with elbows and punches from guard. Craig backs out with 30 seconds left and allows Markes up, then tries to greet him with a flying knee. It doesn’t work and Markes finishes the fight holding Craig with a rear waistlock.

Official result: All three judges score the bout 29-28 for the winner by unanimous decision, Ronny Markes.

Milton Vieira vs. Godofredo “Pepey” Castro

Round 1
Mario Yamasaki is the referee for this lightweight fight. Vieira lands a kick to the body and backs away as Pepey charges forward throwing heavy punches. Pepey gets into range and seems to daze Vieira with a right hand, but it’s Vieira who trips Pepey down and winds up on top, working from the guard. Pepey keeps his guard high as he’s scooted to the center of the cage. Vieira is keeping busy with elbows on top, stifling the attempts of the rangy Pepey to throw up his legs. Vieira slams Pepey down and tries to take his back. They scramble up and Pepey takes a kick to the cup, but they quickly resume. When they do, it’s Vieira looking to tie up and take Pepey back down. Pepey squirts out and finishes the round on his feet. Vieira likely won the round, but he heads back to his corner with a lump under his left eye.

Round 2
Vieira goes right back to controlling things on the ground, pinning Pepey to the floor from half-guard. Vieira doesn’t get a chance to advance further as Pepey locks up a kimura from his back and uses it to sweep into full mount with three minutes remaining in the round. Vieira gives up his back and Pepey secures it with a body triangle. Pepey works for the rear-naked choke, can’t get it, so instead goes back to softening up Vieira with thumping punches. Vieira keeps rolling, trying to shake Pepey off his back, but the body triangle enables Pepey to stay on until the end of the frame.

Round 3
Pepey stings Vieira with a right and does a little dance in front of him, drawing a slight cheer from the unusually quiet Brazilian crowd. The pace has really slowed as the lightweights stand in front of one another, trading sporadic punches, including a nice Vieira right hand. Pepey gestures to the crowd to make some noise, but it’s Vieira who comes forward and puts another hard punch on his countryman. Pepey tries to drag Vieira down with a body lock; he gets “Miltinho” on the ground, but Vieira counters with a kimura attempt. Pepey is forced to go to the ground to defend the submission; he gets his arm free, but surrenders top position to Vieira with two minutes remaining. Referee Yamasaki wants them back up with 1:30 left and Pepey tries to club Vieira with a heavy one-two. The punches bounce off Vieira’s arms and Vieira hits another takedown with one minute to go. He stands and dives back into Pepey’s guard with a right hand. Vieira hears the 10-second clapper and explodes with a final flurry of punches.

Official result: The judges score the bout 29-28 Vieira, 29-28 Pepey and 29-28 for the winner by split decision, Godofredo “Pepey” Castro. The crowd loudly boos the decision as Pepey leaps onto the cage to celebrate.

Thiago Tavares vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov

Round 1
Dan Miragliotta is the ref for tonight’s first main card bout. Tavares stalks out from the center of the cage as Nurmagomedov moves around the outside. They switch positions a few time, still testing the range 90 seconds into the round. Nurmagomedov leaps at Tavares with a nasty left uppercut that sends the Brazilian crashing to the floor. Nurmagomedov gets on top, just bashing away with vicious elbows as Tavares clings to his leg, trying to recover and avoid damage. He can’t, and ref Miragliotta steps in to rescue Tavares at 1:55 of the opening round.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell

Round 1
Marc Goddard is in charge of this heavyweight tilt. The big men square off in the middle of the cage, Rothwell switching between orthodox and southpaw stance. He catches Gonzaga shooting in, but “Napao” keeps after the single and runs Rothwell into the cage. Good, wide base from Rothwell keeps him vertical as the jiu-jitsu specialist continues working for the takedown. Rothwell is warned for grabbing the cage as he’s taken down. He gets right back up, but Gonzaga doesn’t give him an inch and breaks him down again. There are few right hands from Gonzaga as he controls the position, but not much more offense to speak of. Rothwell stands again and Gonzaga holds him on the cage with over-unders. With half the round remaining, Goddard breaks them up. Rothwell inches forward, looking to jab, and gets hustled into the fence again. It doesn’t last this time, and when they separate, it’s Rothwell socking Gonzaga with punches and clinching him on the fence. A knee up the middle from Rothwell draws a warning from Goddard, but they fight on. Rothwell lets go and backs up, looking for an opening and instead letting Gonzaga off the fence. Gonzaga comes over the top with a pair of stiff right hands and shoots a single-leg in the middle of the cage. Rothwell scores with a one-two and Gonzaga comes back with a hard right. The Brazilian puts Rothwell on the fence again just before the horn.

Round 2
Gonzaga lands his right hand again, so Rothwell looks to clinch up and land knees. Gonzaga pushes him off, lands another pair of rights and then grabs a standing guillotine. Gonzaga pulls guard and tries to finish, wrenching the arm-in choke under his right arm. It’s a deep guillotine and Rothwell has no choice but to tap out.

C.B. Dollaway vs. Daniel Sarafian

Round 1
Mario Yamasaki is the ref for tonight’s middleweight co-main event. Sarafian opens up with some leg kicks as he tries to get inside on the taller man. A combo backs Dollaway into the fence and he runs back at Sarafian with an overhand right. A big punch from Sarafian grazes the temple of Dollaway and sends him to the ground. Sarafian sprawls all over a shot from Dollaway and they stay standing. They resume throwing punches and it’s Sarafian getting off his left hand counters. Dollaway tries to cut the Brazilian off with a jab but Sarafian is still getting in, and he’s still coming forward, swinging big punches when the first round ends.

Round 2
Dollaway takes the center of the cage to begin round two and jabs outward at the circling Sarafian. After a failed takedown try, Sarafian pushes his man against the fence, but they don’t stay there long. A big overhand right from Sarafian whacks Dollaway across the face and Sarafian shoots in behind it. Dollaway stays up and they go back to striking. Dollaway lands a hard kick to the body and just dodges a counter-punch. The next kick is caught by Sarafian, who charges in for a takedown, doesn’t get it and instead kicks at the backpedaling Dollaway. The right eye of Sarafian is slightly bloodied from Dollaway’s jab, but it’s still the Brazilian landing more strikes, including more counters on C.B.’s leg kicks. Sarafian shoots in and gets stung by a Dollaway uppercut. The wrestler is all over Sarafian, throwing punches at both side of his head to try and finish the fight, but Sarafian is saved by the bell.

Round 3
Sarafian lands a slow right over the top and Dollaway responds with a one-two. Dollaway tries to jab but can’t find the face of the bobbing Sarafian, who takes a kick to the body. Another big right hand from Sarafian is answered by a sweeping left from Dollaway. The American keeps coming forward, connects with a hard right and drags Sarafian to the floor at the base of the fence. Dollaway moves straight into full mount and nearly secures Sarafian’s back, but Sarafian climbs back to his feet. Dollaway presses him against the fence and brings him down again with still half a round remaining. A few punches from side control and Sarafian rolls over, allowing Dollaway to take full mount again. Sarafian pushes him back to half-guard and sweeps into top position, then takes full mount. Dollaway gives up his back and Sarafian sinks in both hooks. Dollaway defends as Sarafian tries to sneak his right arm underneath the chin. Dollaway twists around with 30 seconds left, gets swept again and finishes the fight shooting on Sarafian against the cage.

Vitor Belfort vs. Michael Bisping

Round 1
Dan Miragliotta is the ref for tonight’s main event. No touch of gloves between the middleweights as they meet in the middle of the cage and begin circling. Bisping tries to pump his jab while Belfort looks for a kick to the body, neither landing flush. Now it’s Bisping who strikes first with a quick inside leg kick one minute into the round. Neither man is letting their hands go halfway through the first round, though Belfort’s left has snuck through a few times. Bisping grabs the collar and lands a punch, answered by a Belfort uppercut. Belfort scores with a hard left kick to the midsection; Bisping tries to catch the next one but can’t hold on. Bisping steps in to jab and catches a finger in the eye, but he says he’s good to continue. Another kick to the body from Belfort lands and Bisping fires back with punches in close quarters. Seconds before the round ends, Belfort clips Bisping and tries to chase him down, but Bipsing wheels out and escapes to the next round.

Round 2
Bisping’s nose is bloodied just moments into the second round. A left high kick from Belfort finds his shin landing right on Bisping’s temple. Bisping collapses to his left side, dazed but trying to locate Belfort to put him in guard. Belfort follows him down and smashes away with hammerfists. Ref Miragliotta hovers nearby, hesitating to stop the fight at first, but a few more punches convince him to rescue the Englishman. Belfort leaps onto the cage as the Sao Paulo crowd explodes. The official time of the TKO is 2:37 of round two.
