Four fighters were awarded post-fight bonuses Saturday night at UFC on FX 8, as Vitor Belfort, Ronaldo Souza, Lucas Martins and Jeremy Larsen each pocketed an extra $50,000.
Belfort was awarded “Knockout of the Night” for his stellar finish of Luke Rockhold in the evening’s main event, while “Jacare” took home “Submission of the Night” honors after putting Chris Camozzi to sleep in the co-headliner. Martins and Larsen shared “Fight of the Night” following their back-and-forth lightweight affair at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
Belfort wasted no time in taking the fight directly to the former Strikeforce champion, threatening with powerful hooks early in round one before landing a perfectly placed spinning heel kick to Rockhold’s jaw midway through the frame. “The Phenom” then put his famous finishing instincts on full display, following the American to the canvas and pounding him out with a series of sledgehammer shots.
Souza found little resistance from Camozzi in earning his first UFC win, as the onetime Strikeforce ace placed “Kamikaze” on his back and deftly passed his guard. Following a slick omoplata sweep executed off a scramble, “Jacare” quickly passed to side control and then mount before rendering his opponent unconscious in a vise-like arm-triangle choke.
Both Martins and Larsen (pictured) ate some heavy leather in the evening’s opening contest, though it was Larsen who appeared to land the larger shots through two rounds. Martins changed all that with a single punch, however, as he short-circuited the “TUF 15” alum with a gorgeous counter right hand just 13 seconds into round three.
