Robbie Lawler and Matt Brown carried an enormous amount of hype into their UFC on Fox 12 main event, and the top-10 welterweights were able to deliver.
After five rounds, “Ruthless” was deemed the victor by the judges sitting cageside, but en route to victory, the American Top Team product absorbed a fair share of punishment. Brown made good use of his fabled elbows, scored a couple takedowns, and wobbled Lawler with a shot to the jaw in the first, proving himself deserving of his nickname, “The Immortal.”
Anthony Johnson endured a full training camp but only required 44 seconds to dismantle Antonio Rogerio Nogueira with a smattering of pinpoint punches. The finish was deemed worthy of a UFC “Performance of the Night” bonus, earning the Blackzilian a cool $50,000.
Dennis Bermudez continued his torrid pace at featherweight, winning his seventh consecutive scrap. “The Menace” was able to finish Clay Guida via submission in the second round and earn a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for his efforts. Bermudez currently owns the third longest winning streak under the UFC banner, sitting behind only Jon Jones and Chris Weidman.
