Tom Lawlor will return to the Octagon for the first time in more than two years when he locks horns with Gian Villante at UFC on Fox 16.
UFC officials announced the light heavyweight pairing on Thursday night. UFC on Fox 16 takes place at the United Center in Chicago on July 25 and is headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao.
Lawlor last competed at UFC on Fuel TV 9, where he submitted Michael Kuiper with a guillotine choke 1:05 into the second round. “Filthy” will fight at 205 pounds for the first time since his Octagon debut, a unanimous decision triumph over Kyle Kingsbury at “The Ultimate Fighter 8” finale.
Villante, meanwhile, has won his last two fights, taking a split decision over Sean O’Connell at UFC Fight Night in June before stopping Corey Anderson via third-round technical knockout at UFC on Fox 15.
