Felice Herrig, Eddie Wineland, Jason Knight and Jim Alers all received $50,000 bonuses at UFC on Fox 20 on Saturday night.
Fighting for the first time in more than a year, Herrig earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus with a quick submission victory over Kailin Curran in a featured bantamweight scrap. Herrig quickly transitioned to her opponent’s back after landing an early takedown, and sunk in a rear-naked choke 1:59 into round one.
Meanwhile, former bantamweight title challenger Wineland captured the evening’s other “Performance of the Night” award with a third-round technical knockout of Frankie Saenz. Wineland buckled his adversary in the first round and then put the fight away in the third stanza with a right cross and a swarm of follow-up punches to earn a standing TKO at the 1:54 mark.
Finally, Knight and Alers received “Fight of the Night” for a spirited 145-pound scrap earlier in the evening. While both fighters had their moments, Knight’s overall output proved to be the difference, as he blended an effective jab with punching combinations and kicks to the legs and body to capture a split verdict.
