UFC on Fox 22 Adds James Moontasri-Alex Morono to Lineup

By Mike Sloan Oct 18, 2016

With the last-minute cancellation of UFC Fight Night 97 last weekend, it looks like James Moontasri will take on Alex Morono on the UFC on Fox 22 card on Dec. 17. The Los Angeles Daily News was the first media outlet to report the switch, though UFC officials have yet to formally announce the fight.

One of the more exciting fighters on the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s roster, Moontasri has flip-flopped wins and losses for two years in the UFC, having gone just 2-3 during that stretch. But “Moonwalker” always brings the heat and his matchup with Morono could be one of the best of the event.

Morono, meanwhile, has been on a tear lately. The former Legacy Fighting Championship champion has won six in a row and in his UFC debut in January, he edged veteran Kyle Noke via split decision after taking the fight on just over a week’s notice.

UFC of Fox will be headlined by popular crossover fighter Paige VanZant continuing her post-Dancing with the Stars stint by colliding with Michelle Waterson. Also set for the marquee will be Mickey Gall taking on polarizing Sage Northcutt in a matchup of young lions while Alan Jouban will oppose Mike Perry. Bryan Barberena will square off with Colby Covington as well.

UFC on Fox 22 will take place at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. and will be televised live on both UFC Fight Pass and Fox.
