After J.C. Cottrell was badly rocked by a counter left uppercut on the inside, he secured a powerful takedown and proceeded to dominate Jason Gonzalez on the ground. Cottrell mauled him with pressure and angles, all the while thwarting off whatever sweeps and leg lock attempts Gonzalez threw at him.
However, even though he was in complete control, Cottrell missed a mounted triangle and in his haste, Gonzalez scrambled to his feet and immediately latched on a textbook D’Arce choke, forcing the tap. The end came officially at 3:54 of the opening frame.
