Demetrious Johnson, Robert Whittaker, Tim Elliott and Louis Smolka are all $50,000 richer after their performances at UFC on Fox 24 in Kansas City, Mo., on Saturday night.
“Mighty Mouse” garnered a “Performance of the Night” check for his dissection of Wilson Reis in the evening’s main event. The reigning flyweight king confounded his Brazilian foe with a multi-faceted arsenal on the feet before landing a takedown and securing the fight-ending armbar 4:49 into the third round.
Whittaker earned a “Performance of the Night” bonus for his upset of Ronaldo Souza in a pivotal middleweight bout. A Whittaker right hand floored “Jacare” within the first 30 seconds of the second round, and the Brazilian was on wobbly legs for the rest of the stanza. From there, Whittaker rocked his man with a head kick, shoved him to the floor and finished the contest with punches on the ground at the 3:28 mark of round two.
Finally, Elliott and Smolka received “Fight of the Night” honors for their preliminary bantamweight duel. In an entertaining grappling battle, Elliott landed multiple takedowns in each round, mounted Smolka twice and got the better of several frantic scrambles en route to winning a unanimous decision. Smolka kept busy by threatening with submissions, but it wasn’t enough to offset Elliott’s relentless wrestling.
